Veterinary Chiropractic is a subset of veterinary medicine that aims to promote the overall health and well-being of animals using science, art, and philosophy to maintain the neuromuscular system in a balanced and healthy state with the rest of the body. It can eliminate the source of acute and chronic pain syndromes and enhance performance as well as quality of life. It is a manual therapy that utilizes the biomechanics of the system rather than drugs, surgery, or tools.
Veterinary Chiropractic care does not replace traditional veterinary medicine. However, it is a valuable tool used to diagnose and treat problems within the spinal cord and other musculoskeletal disorders. When chiropractic and good traditional veterinary medicine are combined they are an effective way to restore and maintain strength, well-being, and provide years of happy and healthy living for your pet. By alleviating pain and illness at their source you will also be maximizing performance and quality of life.
How does it work?
The nervous system controls everything in humans and animals from physical movements to organ function to the immune system. The skull and spine not only protects the brain and spinal cord but intimately works with them. If the ability of the spine to move and work properly is impaired it in turn impairs the ability of the nervous system to function appropriately. When a part of the spine is not moving appropriately, it is called a subluxation complex. Anything from trauma, illness, improper equipment/shoes, to normal daily activities can impact the spine’s movement causing a subluxation complex. You may notice an infinite number of things but common symptoms include changes in gait, movement, soreness, muscle spasms, lameness, or general behavior or wellness. The signs can vary greatly from the obvious to ones so subtle it may take a trained chiropractor to detect. The goal of animal chiropractic is to find the areas of the spine that are not moving appropriately and restore them back to normal function. By doing so, it will return the spinal system to its full potential allowing the patient to heal from within.
