I am a Professor of Chinese Linguistics at National Taiwan University and currently serve as the Director of the International Chinese Language Program (ICLP). Originally trained as a theoretical phonologist, I am also interested in the underlying mechanisms of Chinese idiomatic expressions during reading comprehension.
My current research focuses on two main areas. On the one hand, I investigate how native-language prosodic patterns influence the acquisition of Mandarin tones by second-language learners. On the other hand, in collaboration with researchers in machine learning, I am developing an interlanguage corpus capable of automatically assessing the accuracy of Mandarin tone production by L2 learners.
