A Tamil Poem written some time during 2005

மணமாகி பல்லாண்டு மகவின்றி கழிந்திடவே

பணமொன்றே வாழ்க்கையில்லை என்றே நினைத்திடவே

சுற்றமும் உறவுகளும் கேட்டனவே கேள்விகளே

பற்றுக்கும் பாசத்துக்கும் தேவை ஒரு மகளே

கண்ணொன்றே ப்ரதானமாய் முகம் பெருத்தும்

அழகான இமை இருந்த்தும் உடல் சிறுத்தும்

அழக்கூடத் தெரியாமல் வினொதமாய் இருந்தாளே

உடலினிலே முத்தோடு வந்தாளே எம்மகளே

சங்கத் தமெழிற்கே ஒளவை கொடுத்ததுவோ

பாலும் பருப்பும் பாகும் தினைமாவுமிவை கலந்தே

தங்க மகளிற்கு அன்னை அடைத்ததுவோ

நெய்யும் பருப்பும் கேரட் சேர்ந்ததுவே

சுவைத்தெதெல்லாம் சென்ற்தெங்கே என்றறியா

எடை குறைந்த சிறாராக யாவரும் நினைத்திடவே

அன்புடனும் கதையுடனும் அளித்த அன்னம்

திண்ணமாக தெரிந்ததுவே அறிவினிலே

பாரதியின் புதுமைப் பெண்ணாய்க் காலைப் பாட்டு

பார் மெச்ச அன்னை ஊக்க பரதக்கலை கற்று

பள்ளியிலே படிப்புடனே பண்பும் கொண்டு

கள்ளமின்றி வைஷ்ணவியே வளர்வாள் இன்று

An english Poem for Arangetram

Arangetram of Vaishnavi

Came she home with a body sans flesh,

With only the eyes shining bright.

Knew we not if she would walk afresh,

Let alone dance and sing alright.

The motherly care with carrots and dhall,

made her walk before her first b'day

Gained her strength to the joy of all

Danced to the Teletunes all the day

Went to school at the age of four,

With mischief in her bag all day long

Known to all by her acts all the hour

Teachers waited to hear the bell dong.

Come chithrahar to make her dance,

In her inner wear like the filmy stars,

Her worried mother took a stance

Into class of music as a path of stairs

The tiny feet moved to Tha thai Tha

Under the tutelage of Madam Surya

On the stage for Thakka thimi tha,

at the age of ten for Bharatha Natya

The shake of hip and the body twist,

Got her into every school annual act,

But not in the dance of classical midst

Though started on Bharatha art

Fought for a place in classical dance

got “thillana thillana”  in the school

Navarasa Nayagi offered the chance

Vasanthi directing the drama so cool

Many more stage shows beckoning

Tourist festivals being a few of them

Radhika Surajit gave the reckoning

Dancing to Kannadasan's songs of fame

Thakka thimi tha, the best of TV shows

Tribute to creation of sage  Bharatha

Vaishanvi gravitating to the glows

Became a shishya of Radhika

Under strict and caring tutalage

Planned on 25th July is the Arangetram
