I've been making inquiries about partial vision loss that results when an individual is left with only their peripheral vision, while sharp focus for reading, for example, is no longer an option.ย There isn't much that can be done to restore damage caused to the retinal area of the eye, however, vision that remains in the peripheral area may, in some instances, be trained well enough to read.ย How well, if any, depends on the nature of the disorder as well as to each individual's abilities.
Methods for re-training the eye to read by using peripheral vision are very demanding.ย However, based on ChatGPT's specific information, I asked ChatGPT to put together a script that would provide what was needed based on their information they had provided. ย ChatGPT's response was something to the effect, "Absolutely, no problem," and in about 4 seconds created exactly what I had requested.
After a few more tweaks I had a full working version.ย ChatGPT even offered to create an animated tutorial and printable progress sheets to accompany the peripheral training tool which I declined at this time (see link below for the working version).
I haved embedded the code on a hidden page of its own on this website so that it doesn't slow the loading time for this page.ย Also provided is the option for individuals who are utilizing this tool for a learning or training aid to be able to copy and paste emojis for non-readers for helping to focus and identify objects other than words and letters.
There is a download option at the top of this page so the app can be used separately from this website.ย To include the resource area as well as these paragraph and the Peripher Vision Trainer apps, save the entire webpage and t hen drag and drop it on your web browser to use when offline.ย This will be independent of this website.ย The download can be saved in the "myfiles" area of a notebook because of a notebook's portablity, manueverability, and ability to really Zoom In for very clear animated text which either scrolls from right to left, vertically, or flashes as would flash cards.ย Chunks of text can also be displayed.ย In my opinion, there is more flexiblity with the viewer's head and screen position with a notebook compared to viewing moving text and objects on a fixed vertical computer screen.ย The Chrome Browser also has a Zoom feature that can increase to 500%.ย Like a notebook, a computer also requires scrolling to navigate to access the sliders and buttons that have also been enlarged. ย It is common for today's computers to have touch screens or precision trackpads that support multi-touch gestures, such as the pinch-to-zoom gesture, to shrink or enlarge content on the screen (AI Overview). ย
The speed of scrolling text and flashing text can also be adjusted.ย There is an audio beep option available as well.
Lastly, as mentioned by ChatGPT, similar apps can be used for speed reading training.

File size: 18K).ย Note:ย There is no "Save Session Options"; however, to return to its default settings while in use, simply press reload in your browser.ย Text and emogis can either be typed or pasted into the input box and it can then be displayed across the top of the viewing area.ย See the Resources Section at the end of this post.

As with any medical related procedure or training, always consult your physician before undertaking an activity such as the one described above.
ยงย Reading scrolling or flashed Inch-Tall letters, symbols and images (emojis) may be better than reading nothing at all.
ยงย Editing the Script Notes:ย After ChatGPT's had completed its initial script, it had difficulty making minor changes.ย Multiple attempts proved to be unsuccessful (I was using Tier 1 -- the free version).ย I then turned the task over to Gemini AI who put everything in good working order on its first try:
Corrected a problem in the peripheral-training script's display layer for the Toggle PRL option.
Fixed a few of the button colors for transitioning from dark to light mode.
Corrected a problem with the PRL color options, and Grid visibility.
Connected the Instructions to the PRL Guide button that had not been functioning.
Lastly, Gemini improved the overall appearance by reformatting the viewable screen area with a side-by-side, two column layout for the adjustments and settings area.
Both AI apps deserve lots of respect for their ability to make complex tasks seem so simple.
