Double Feature was one of my single semester projects. A main goal was to go from design concept to Gold Master status in that time, as was the goal with Dreams of The Immortal. However, the true goal of this project was to make demonstrations of two new and unique game play concepts. It is called Double Feature because there are two smaller games contained within the single larger project. This game is built in the RPG Maker VX engine.
I designed and built every map within the game. I designed and balanced every character, enemy, and attack within the game. After sending it out to multiple testers, I corrected balance issues and fixed any bugs. Other than the feedback from the testers, I was the only one working on the game. All of the art, animations, and sounds were included with the engine's original download.
The first game within Double Feature is Red VS Blue. There are two types of mana, red and blue, which fuel the player's abilities. Blue is very traditional. It starts at full and counts down as it is used. It can ONLY be restored by sleeping. Red is a newer concept in that it starts at zero, and fills as the player fights. It can then be spent to use the abilities. It also drains in-between fights. The player may choose which color they play as.
The second game within Double Feature is Soul Siphon. The player character is a newly graduated officer in the human army. The humans are at war with an undead society across the river. The player however, has the power to switch himself between being alive, and being undead. This lets the player interact with both sides, and gives him different combat techniques. The ability to switch was an experiment with player interaction as all of the non-player characters act differently towards the player depending on what form he is currently in.
