About Us
Tauranga is the most populous city in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand. It was settled by Europeans in the early 19th century and was constituted as a city in 1963. Tauranga City is the centre of the fifth largest urban area in New Zealand, with an urban population of over 160,000 people. The city lies in the north-western corner of the Bay of Plenty, on the south-eastern edge of Tauranga Harbour.
In 2016 all Probus Clubs that were not affiliated to Probus South Pacific Ltd (an Australian company) were forced to change their names. At present we are the Tauranga Vision Club.
Probably because of the larger than usual number of retired people who live here, we have a large number of Clubs - Probus, Rebus, Fellowship, and of course, Vision. We are one of about 30 in Tauranga; some are all male, some all women, and some are mixed. Our club has both men and women members, and we pride ourselves in being friendly and welcoming to visitors.
We meet at the Tauranga Citizens' Club at 10.00am on the fourth Monday of every month, except December and January. However, if the 4th Monday happens to be a public holiday (e.g., Easter, Anzac Day, Labour Day, etc) the meeting is held on the 3rd Monday.
The first part of our programme includes a mini-speaker followed by general business, a raffle and morning tea. We then have a speaker and the morning ends about noon. We charge $7.00 per person which covers the cost of the morning tea, and our annual subscription is $25.00.
Everyone receives the current newsletter and during the business part of the meeting various committee members present reports.
Why not come and visit us one morning? You will be most welcome. If you would like to join us you can print out a Membership Application form and send it in.
