REVIEWS OF JOURNEYS TO PEDDER (2023)

Hi Guy and Jenny,

Thank you once again for your exemplary hospitality on Sunday evening.

I have talked to the committee, and they are very excited to hear of your work. Especially Christine Milne, who of course taught with Chris Binks for some time.

They are more than happy to share and promote your work… provided the tourism statement is removed*…

I can also offer to set up a booking link on your behalf, through our existing online system. And I was not joking that this should be shared beyond Tasmania!

Kindest regards

Restore Lake Pedder

31 May

* I chose not to remove the tourism statement

and declined their offer to share and promote.

Thanks Guy,

And thank you for creating this magnificent documentary. It is a lasting monument to the beauty of the Tasmanian landscape and to those who knew it intimately and loved it so much. Terry and I found it intensely moving and were amazed at the quality of the production. To describe your work as meticulous seems faint praise indeed. You leave no stone unturned – your use of maps was particularly good and the combination of photos, maps and Dad’s narration created an extremely compelling narrative. I hope Bob Brown will come to one of the showings of the entire film as I’m sure he would love it.

Thank you again for what you have done for the history of Tasmanian bushwalking and landscape — and for making an old bushwalker very happy!

   Warm wishes and sincere thanks,

Cathy Binks

Dear Guy and Jenny,

Last night you gifted me an amazing trip down memory lane. From 70-72 Rob and I made 4-5 trips into Pedder, and others to Mt Anne, Adamsfield and Gordonvale. I remembered the trees, the rocks, the tracks, the feelings. The photography was world class and the presentation professional. Thank you for your five years of passion to do this. I trust Rob shared it in some way and others can learn the lesson we must never repeat – the lesson of Pedder. So much gratitude to you and all the photographers.

Hallo Jenny and Guy,

After attending last night’s show with 2 friends, I wish to commend you both on a superb presentation.  I feel honoured to be able to see such a large and diverse range of very good quality photos. I haven’t seen photos of (or been to) Pedder prior to the flooding, previously so it was very interesting to see areas that I have since kayaked over. I enjoyed the stories of peoples experiences in getting to Pedder and surrounds.

Once again, I thank you most appreciatively for sharing your wonderful resources with us all. I found it a real thrill. Much thanks.

Hello Guy,

I went last Saturday to see your slides/films and am totally enthused about the experience. They were not only informative but also the way the music was chosen and used was fantastic. I really want to congratulate you for these amazing images that reflect the history about the walking trails around the original Lake Pedder and the lake itself.

Also the issue of the drainage of Lake Pedder was handled very well, not one sided, but we heard different opinions about it. Well done.

I have now made a big effort to inform many people in my networks about the audio-visual and hope that a big number of them will be able to make it to the last Saturday screening. I have heard back from some of them who unfortunately already have other things on, and are regretting that they can’t make it.

I am wondering whether there is any chance to put a few additional screenings on and to publicise them a bit wider through newspapers, radio stations etc.  I am sure you could fill the auditorium a few more times.

Thanks again for the opportunity to immerse myself into the history and beauty of the Lake Pedder area. It has been a real treat.

Best regards,

Karin Le

Good morning Guy and Jenny,

My wife and I attended yesterday’s showing of Journeys to Pedder and thoroughly enjoyed it.

My wife had to opportunity to see the original Lake Pedder, so the show was a great opportunity for her to re-live the experience. I only arrived in Tasmania from the UK in August 1972 and regrettably did not have the same opportunity to see the lake in pristine condition. Your show certainly helped to fill that void in my experience.

Beautifully presented and very professionally done, the show was a very personal and emotional journey for the many presenters that re-lived their experiences, and these emotions came through to the audience. Very well done indeed!

I am now feeling the same mixed emotions as the presenters – should we push to have the lake returned to us, or should we be thankful for what we had (and your brilliant record of it) and move on. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

If the presentation becomes available in DVD form (yes – I still use DVDs!) please let me know so that I can purchase a copy.

Thank you once again for a truly wonderful show.
