Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior!
Greetings to each of you our constituents and friends of SWD:
I am immensely grateful to our God, and to our visionary leader Moderator D. R. Crossley for allowing me this opportunity to serve as president of SWD Congress for another year. We jointly are glad that each of you are here to support the 85th session of the Southwest District Congress of Christian Education. Our gratitude goes out to Rev. Johnny Harris, Section 1, and Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (of which Rev. Harris is President and Pastor). Our special thanks are owed to Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Pastor Shepherd; who has opened their doors for two (2) consecutive years for our congress and youth revival activities. Thank you!
Southwest District is geographically a large area, spanning from Texarkana over to Ashdown, up to Hot Springs and over to Benton; encompassing 51 churches along those routes. We love and appreciate all 51 churches. However, thanks to our illustrious Dean, the Rev. Freddie Smith, our class participation (during our congress) has outgrown the educational facilities of each of our churches. We need additional off-site space no matter which church opens their doors. Therefore, all classes and seminars will be held at Peake Elementary School. The pre-musical each year is needing our larger church facilities to house the Music, Worship and Arts Auxiliary worship experience. It will be held again, this year, at Greater Pleasant Hill.
We are attempting to acknowledge all 97 of our pastors and ministers on Sunday night July 14, 2019 at 7:00 pm during our “Light on Leadership Parade”. We have been blessed with new pastors and interim pastors, which we will present on that Sunday night.
Please make every special effort to have SWD young people present during the S.T.E.M. presentation from the University of Arkansas College of Engineering on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10 am – 3:30 pm.
Let us remember God’s servant, our friend, and SWD 2nd Vice Moderator, Pastor Douglas E. Jones and please keep Sis. Gladys Jones and family in our prayers.
In His Service,
