About us

SDBA is the bridleways group for horseriders and landowners in the West Cambridge area, spanning Cambridge to St Ives, Earith to Cambourne.

Formed in 2001 to create safe off-road links between local villages, our biggest success was in persuading first SuperCam and then Cambridgeshire County Council, to create the St Ives to Cambridge busway "maintenance track" as a public bridleway.  This 18km offroad route, the longest bridleway in the county, with its links (existing and new) from nearby villages has helped us towards achieving our goal.  We have worked tirelessly with designers, council and contractors over the past eight years for this project.

In addition, we liaise closely with the RSPB to safeguard and create horseriding routes within the RSPB Fen Drayton and Ouse Fen reserves.

We have worked successfully with Highways England and the County Council on the A14 upgrade which gave the opportunity for new bridleway links, both parallel with the old A14, and new crossing points over it and the new A14.

We are also involved with Northstowe developers, the City Deal and the County Council's Greenways Project all of which offer further opportunities for linking up existing bridleways and creating new ones.

We act as a contact point between local horse riders and local landowners too, quickly able to pass out information (obstructions on bridleways, fallen trees, loose livestock, shoot and hunt dates, suspicious vehicles or behaviour).

Joining SDBA is FREE OF CHARGE. Either find and join us on Facebook  (Swavesey Bridleways) or send us your contact details (name, email or address, phone).

We are an affiliated bridleway group to the British Horse Society which affords us a wealth of information, guidance and expertise.  http://www.bhs.org.uk/access-and-bridleways
