Dr. Swarup Roy is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, Lovely Professional University. He is also an Eminent Scholar at the Department of Food and Nutrition, Kyung Hee University, Republic Korea. He previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, Shoolini University, Solan, India (2022-2023). Dr. Roy teaches Food Packaging, Food Chemistry, and Flavor Chemistry, and conducts research in biopolymer-based active and intellignet food packaging films and coatings. He has qualified GATE (2011) and received the DST INSPIRE fellowship award in 2011.
He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry (2016) from the University of Kalyani, West Bengal. He holds more than five years of postdoctoral research experience from various institutes, Kyung Hee University (3 years) & Inha University (1 year), Republic of Korea, and Indian Institute of Technology Indore (1.5 years).
His academic contributions include several international scientific papers, reviews, book chapters, published by ACS, Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, RSC, Wiley, etc. He has published a total of 190 SCI/SCIE/ESCI publications, 22 book chapter, filed 3 patents, and 30 other papers with 13909 citations, 67 h-index, and 161 i10-index (Google Scholar). Dr. Roy presented his research work in 19 invited talks and 27 International and National conferences.
Dr. Roy worked on the preparation of biodegradable active food packaging films using polysaccharides and protein-based biopolymers. He also worked on smart pH-sensitive color indicator film as a food freshness indicator. He has also fabricated various multifunctional bio-based nanocomposites. He has received 1st class 1st award from the University of Kalyani (2011), CEFIPRA-ESONN Indo-French Fellowship 2015 for participating in the European School on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies at Grenoble, France.
He also holds the post of Academic editor of various journals: Packaging Technology and Science (Impact Factor – 2.6), International Journal of Biomaterials (Impact Factor – 3.1), International Journal of Food Science (Impact Factor – 4.0), Frontiers in Nanotechnology, Editorial Board member of Scientific Reports (Impact factor 3.8), Materials (Impact Factor – 3.4), Journal of Food Quality (Impact Factor 3.3), Discover Nano, Section Editorial board member of Polymers (Impact Factor – 5), and also serving as a Guest editor of the Journal of Vinyl and Additive Technology (Impact Factor – 3.8), Scientific Reports (Impact factor 3.8), Polymers, Coatings (Impact Factor – 3.4), Materials (Impact factor 3.4), Journal of Composite Science (Impact factor 3.2), International journal of molecular Sciences (Impact Factor – and Journal of Nanomaterials Apart from this, he has reviewed three book proposals from Elsevier and also served as a reviewer of over 100 international journals.
At present, Dr. Roy is involved in research work based on the fabrication of blend biopolymers-based food packaging films/coatings. His research work is focused on the preparation and application of biopolymer-based functional, smart food packaging film and coatings.
