Media Center - Policies
The Media Center is open before and after school every school day.
Be Proactive (You’re in Charge)
To encourage good check in/out habits each time students attend media, students may check in/out 1 book. Extra materials can be checked out with the students' teacher's permission.
Be Proactive
Sharpen the Saw (Balance Feels Best)
The Shiloh Valley Elementary School Media Center adheres to the UCPS BOE and The American Library Association Bill of Rights and will not restrict materials. Teachers are encouraged to work closely with their students and the items they checkout.
Synergize (You’re in Charge)
If additional books are needed to work on special projects throughout the year, this request will be granted for teacher checkout once the grade level chair has been contacted so that all materials can be utilized fairly among all members on the grade level. It is up to the grade level chair to determine how these materials are to be distributed and recorded in an effort to eliminate lost materials.
Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
Teachers may check out materials for an indefinite period of time as long as others do not need the items.
Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
Materials (e.g. calculators, books, laptops, etc.) checked out by teachers should be accounted for at all times. If damages occur, teachers should be able to identify which student(s) used the checked out materials and be involved in contacting the media coordinator, administration, and/or parents.
Synergize (Together is Better)
Teachers are required to put a note explaining what's wrong and how it happened for Chromebooks and their PC before giving machine(s) to the media coordinator.
Begin With the End in Mind (Have a Plan)
We use students' Chromebooks as their library card.
Be Proactive (You’re in Charge)
Independent groups may use the media center without a teacher or assistant. Depending on the activity planned, the teacher and/or assistant may be required to stay with the class. All events (point of need or scheduled) should be requested with the media coordinator indicating the time student(s) need to return to class.
