Frequently Asked Questions

How often are classes scheduled in the Media Center?

Classes can come into the Media Center on a flexible basis, with the Media Coordinator and the classroom teachers collaboratively planning and teaching. The content of the instructional part of media class varies by grade level and by what the students are working on in the classroom.

When can students come to the Media Center to checkout and/or return library materials?

Students may return books to the Media Center and/or select new books during their scheduled class time and/or during weekly Open Checkout time. Open Checkout is available daily.

Are fines charged for overdue books?

Neither students nor staff members are charged fines for overdue books.

What if a library book is damaged while checked out to a student?

Please contact the Media Coordinator, Kevin Vickers. Sometimes we can fix it. If we can, we will. If we can't fix it, the student is responsible for paying for it. Due to our high book usage, we prefer that replacement cost is paid for a unrepairable book. We purchase shelf ready books with durable library bindings whenever possible and appreciate replacement cost.

What if a student loses a book?

If a student loses a book, we encourage him/her to look for it. If the book is not located, the student must pay for the lost book (with cash or check payable to SVES) before being allowed to check out additional books. Please contact the Media Coordinator, Kevin Vickers, for replacement cost.

If a book is lost, can a student replace it with another book?

No. Due to our high book usage, we prefer that replacement cost is paid for a lost book. We purchase shelf ready books with durable library bindings whenever possible and appreciate replacement cost.

How often does the Media Center sponsor a Book Fair?

Book Fairs are held three times a year, usually in September, Februrary, and May. Along with the traditional in-school Book Fair, we sponsor online Book Fairs during the same time frames.
