It is with great sadness
that we wish to announce
the closure of SSHOA Inc.
This decision has been made after many months of discussions, careful thought
and deliberation.
We have had the pleasure of running our Dressage days for many years and have
enjoyed sharing it with you all.
We wish you all the greatest success for the future.
Thank you to our fabulous volunteers and helpers at each event,

FROM EQUESTRIAN NSW
The new Equestrian Australia rule about headgear came into force on 1 January 2017, but there’s been some confusion about what it means. Put simply, if you compete in an Equestrian Australia sanctioned competition, your helmet must conform with the new rule, detailed below.
If your helmet is approved to EN1384 (the old standard no longer approved by EA) BUT ALSO approved under another standard (PAS015, ASTM F1163, VG1, etc.) then it is good to go.
Primary responsibility to comply with the new rule is yours, but it’s also the responsibility of clubs and organising committees to advertise that you must comply. If you’re involved in an accident wearing a non-compliant helmet, your member insurance may not cover you.
EA General Regulations, Article 122.2: Dress and Salute, the following will apply:
Protective headgear must conform with one of the current approved safety standards:
Current Australian standard AS/NZ 3838 (2006 onwards) provided they are SAI global marked.
New Australian standard ARB HS 2012 provided they are SAI global marked
Current American standards ASTM FII63 (2004a or 04a onwards) provided they are SEI marked, or SNELL E2001.
Current British standard PAS 015 (1998 or 2011) provided they are BSI Kitemarked.
Interim European Standard VGI (01.040: 2014-12) with or without BSI Kitemark.
BSI Kitemark

Rule Changes from 1.1.16
Please be aware of the rules, which can be found on the EA website here:- EA Rules and Tests
There have been quite a number of rule changes from 1st January 2015. I have featured quite a few in this issue as well as a diagram of spurs for children and ponies. There is a restriction on the length of spurs worn by riders of ponies – 3.5cm.
The ADC wishes to make a further clarification to Rule 2.5 with regard to pony riders of any age.
1.The definition of blunt spur includes all dummy spurs, blunt spurs, Impuls type and Soft Touch type spurs – in fact any spur without a rowel, as long as it meets the requirements of length ( no more than 3.5 cms ) and also the other aspects of Rule 2.5.
2.In addition the FEI has recently clarified and permitted Soft Touch spurs ( with a roll) to be used in either plane ( horizontal or vertical).
To sum it up, rowelled spurs are not permitted for pony riders of any age – but all other spurs are, as long as they meet the lengthy and definitional part of Rule 2.5.
Cutaway short coats/Mini Tails Coats ( which seem to be double breasted) are permitted for all levels up to and including Advanced Informal as long as they are cut straight across the back. ( see rule 2.8) This is a typo where they are excluded from Preliminary to Advanced Informal in Table 2.17 ( page31).
