Professional profile_______________________________________________________________

With PhD degree and several years of working on WASH sector I have a wide range of experience across sanitation, eco-sanitation, public health, nutrient recycle, waste management, wastewater treatment, waste business, circular economy etc. My dedication to WASH helped me to develop a new technique to “produce mineral fertilizer from waste” and develop several business models for waste recycle. Conducting projects in Nepal, Ghana and Finland proves my adaptability in different climate and circumstance.

Core Skills______________________________________________________________________

· WASH (Water, sanitation and hygiene) * Circular economy

· Waste business * Public health

· Wastewater treatment ·* Biogas

· Report writing * Nutrients recycle · School sanitation * Data analysis (SPSS)

· Microsoft office * Language (English, Nepali)

Professional work experience_______________________________________________________

2019-Present University of Eastern Finland, Project Researcher

Working as a project researcher in P-harvest project. The main idea of this project is to develop a new biochemical process to recover P (phosphorus) from waste. Produce value added product from recovered P to promote circular economy.

Key responsibilities

 Design and kickoff the project

 Analyze the findings, develop the process replicable, and upscalable.

2

2015- 2019 Aalto University, Project Researcher

Worked as a project researcher in NPharvest project. Raki2 Project (2017-2020) was funded by Ministry of Environment, Finland. A Climate Kic, pathfinder project 2016 was funded by EU Nordic. The main idea of these projects is to develop new technique on nutrients recycle and look for business possibilities.

Key responsibilities

· Develop a new idea to recover nitrogen and phosphorus from different liquid waste.

· Develop a new concept on waste recycles to support a circular economy, especially in the biogas sector.

· Feasibility study and market analysis of nutrient recovery technique and recycled fertilizer.

· Project management including; writing proposal, conduct project, organize meetings, reporting donors, report writing.

· Develop a business model for the nutrient harvesting technique

· Teach circular economy, waste recycle and environmental health

· Mentor for master’s thesis

Key Achievement

· Developed “Nutrients harvesting technique” and produced ammonium sulfate (mineral fertilizer from urine and wastewater.

(Patent Pending) (https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2017140957A1/en)

· Developed several business models for the nutrient harvesting technique

· Produced several research and peer review papers

2012-2015 IWMI (International Water Management Institute). Post-doctoral fellow.

IWMI is an international research institute having an office in several countries all over the world. I was based in Ghana. I was working with resource recovery and reuse unit.

Key responsibilities

· Human waste recycles in agriculture and develop business.

· Develop a business model for human waste-based fertilizer.

· Coordinate with different stakeholders (private and public sectors)

· Support other research groups such as aquaculture in wastewater to generate revenue from the wastewater treatment plant.

· Project management in Ghana and Nepal

· Supervise interns and field workers

Key Achievement

· Produced pellet fertilizer from fecal sludge and tested its fertilizer value.

· marketed the fecal sludge pellet fertilizer.

· Produced biochar from fecal sludge and test for the soil amendment.

· Developed a sustainable business model for compost/pellet and implement PPP (public-private partnership) model in Accra.

· Completed several small projects in Ghana and a fecal sludge flow survey project in Nepal.

2010-2012- University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio campus. Research worker

Key responsibilities

· Study the effect of Fe+3, Al+3 and Microthrix parvicella in biogas production with wastewater sludge.

Key Achievement

· Learned the biogas process and effecting factors. The achieved result showed that M parvicella did not affect the biogas production in our study environment.

2005-2010- University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio campus, Finland. PhD student

Key responsibilities

· Study the fertilizer value of human urine, wood ash and animal manure in different vegetables.

· Conduct a questionnaire study of people’s attitude on the use of urine fertilizer, practical demonstration of eco-toilet and its benefits in Nepal.

· Quality analysis of waste based fertilizer and agricultural products.

· Survival of enteric microbes in urine.

· Water treatment with solar radiation (SODIS)

· Wastewater treatment using different chemicals (PIX, PAX) for flocculation, use of disinfectants (PAA, PFA, H2O2) and UV.

· Supervise master’s students.

Key Achievement

· Urine has similar fertilizer value as mineral fertilizer and cattle manure.

· Peoples attitude about urine fertilizer can be changed by a practical demonstration and show its benefits.

· Stored urine showed less pathogenic risk for agricultural use.

2000-2004- Tri-Chandra College, Kathmandu, Nepal. Assistant lecturer

Key responsibilities

· Teaching theory and practical class.

2000-2001 Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. master’s student

· prevalence of helminth parasites among children were studied in Nepal.
