I came up with the idea of harvesting nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) from liquid waste and producing mineral fertilisers such as ammonium sulphate, ammonium phosphate, ammonium nitrate, and calcium phosphate. The idea was further developed into the NPHarvest project (see publications).
what we did:
Produced ammonium sulfate and ammonium phosphate (mineral fertiliser from wastewater, urine, reject water.
Produced 20g of ammonium sulfate fertiliser from 1L of urine or reject water.
Conducted a feasibility study of this technique and the recycled fertilizer.
Developed a business model for this technique with a biogas company or sanitation company.
