Teaching Methodology

METHOD USED

For beginners level, I will start with Faber, Alfred or Poco method books. Once my students have stable fundamentals and sight-reading skills, I will begin to introduce classical composers' music along with his/her personal music choices. Secondly, I will encourage my students join competitions and perform in public and studio recitals. Besides practicing on the keyboard, I often assign students to do warm-up exercises which do not need a keyboard. Some efficiency exercises really help students get better faster than practicing on the keyboard.

LESSON STYLE

I approach every student's lesson differently. After an analysis of the student's current level, goals, and musical interests, I develop a lesson plan that specifically targets helping the student to reach his/her goals. I find most often that as soon as I help the student master music that they enjoy, they realize the potential of the instrument and their interest skyrockets. Another important aspect of my teaching is done through supplementing lessons with recordings and live concerts I think it's important that the student is able to see how professional musicians perform, and I find that this really inspires most students.

EXPERIENCED

I have been giving private piano lessons since 2008 I started piano teaching in my native country of Malaysia for two years as a full time piano instructor. Later, I traveled to Taiwan and earned Bachelor of Finer Arts in Music degree from University of Taipei. At the same time, I was luckily enough to have a few of private students. They learned piano from me through my college. It was great to share my knowledge of music performance & history to my students. Then, I moved to Denver after graduating from University of Wyoming with a Performer's Certificte and maintaining a private studio in 2017-2019 and moved to Casper, WY in 2019 Sep to 2022 June, to get close with my husband's side family. During my time at Wyoming, I was a licensed Kindermusik instructor, taught classes for 2-6 years old, teaching musical concepts, circle dances, fine & gross motor skills thru musical play, including introduce recorder and keyboard to 4-6 years old! Secondly, as a piano/kindermusik instructor, I also teach teenager enrichment programs with marimbas, piano, drum circle, band and boomwhackers.

Currently, we are at DTC, CO near Centennial CO and only teach piano students from beginning to advanced level, 3 almost 4 years old up to senior age who love music and sharing my knowledge with them!

My definition of fun is successfully master a piece of music and enjoying the music they love. Loving the music is the most important role in a musician's life. I am very patient with my students when they are struggling and offer support to help them overcome their difficulties. My students are so motivated and excited when they master a difficult piece that is higher than their current level.
