Key Terms
- ABT - Availability Based Tariff
- AMR - Automatic Meter Reading
- MDM - Meter Data Management
- MDAS - Meter Data Acquisition System
MDM
- MDM is the central repository for meter data and maintains interval data, event logs , register data & outage history
- supports VEE -Validate, Estimate and Edit
- VEE cleans and complete interval data received from MDAS
- VEE verifies the accuracy and completeness of the meter data and then fills in the gaps
- eg. Itrom MDM
MDAS
- Meter Data Acquisition/Collection system
- interacts with the Meters directly collecting data on a pre-defined schedule.
- provides register, channel and event data
- Modem is linked to the meter and is used by MDAS to comunicate via GPRS.
Register Data
- The “register” is the meter’s memory, in the form of a led display.
- It shows only one value: total cumulative consumption from date the meter was installed.
Interval Data
- Interval data is time-based information about a customer’s energy use.
- In addition to recording a customer’s cumulative energy consumption, smart meter also record energy usage every 15/30 mins.
- It can support billing for time-based electricity rates (time-of-use, critical peak pricing, hourly pricing, peak demand).
- "Time of day" metering allows rates to be changed during a day, to record usage during peak high-cost periods and off-peak, lower-cost, periods
Event Data
- Events are non-reading(non-billing) information that comes from meters, endpoints, and collectors. .
- Events include tamper flags, low battery alarms, and harmonic distortions, and so forth.
- These events can be used for various applications such as Outage Management and Revenue Protection.
