Greetings Mountain Residents:
The SWPL intends to offer chipping services again this year, likely starting in early June, 2022.
In 2021, many residents worked very hard to clear their properties and make our community safer from wildfire. The scope of the 2021 program involved residents of Villa del Monte and across Summit Road down Chasewood Drive and Nikkie Lane. The enthusiasm and interest were amazing. We raised roughly $9000 in donations and were able to conduct three full days of chipping to remove the massive fuel load piles that participants produced through amazing clearing and gathering work. While we didn't have a way of quantifying the extent of our 2021 effort, the pics at the bottom of this page show a few of the piles that were chipped.
While the job of keeping rural forested areas as safe as possible from the ravages of wildfire is never-ending, we definitely removed a huge amount of wildfire fuel from our community. Several other community residents hired tree service companies and conducted their own clearing/chipping efforts throughout the Villa. All of this helps make us safer and reduces our exposure to wildfire.
The 2022 Chipping Program will works like this:
Those of you who participated in last year's program, we will email you about the 2022 plans and schedule.
You call or email a SWPL representative notifying us that you intend to take advantage of the program and provide a brief summary of your clearing plans, scheduled completion, contact information, and most importantly your address.
A SWPL representative will contact you to discuss your plans and coordinate a site review upon completion of your clearing work. The site review is simply to ensure that your chipping piles meet program guidelines and to verify that your location is ready for chipping services to arrive. To make this program work best, we urge residences to allow chipping companies to deposit chips back onto their property or an area within a very close proximity to your piles.
SWPL will schedule your chipping materials to be chipped and coordinate with the appropriate chipping contractors to complete the work.
You will be notified of the date chipping services will be conducted at your address. Specific times will be difficult to schedule but as much information as possible will be provided.
SWPL will follow up with you to verify that your piles were successfully chipped and all work was performed satisfactorily.
While we have some leftover funds from our 2022 program, we are hoping to raise enough in donations and corporate matches to conduct at least three (3) full chipping days, hopefully, more. Obviously, we will only schedule services for residents that have completed their clearing projects/plans and have piles ready for chipping.
We expect the first day of chipping in late May, or early June. Subsequent days will be scheduled as enough residents complete their clearing efforts and are verified as ready for chipping services. And, of course, as donations allow.
