English 2 Honors

English 2 Honors Summer Reading Program

Welcome to English II Honors!  We look forward to working with students like you who have exhibited a true dedication to scholarship.  Students are expected to go well beyond the requirements of other English classes not only during the school year but also during the preceding summer months. Summer is a great opportunity for students to continue reading and to catch up on the reading he/she did not have time for during the school year. It is also a time to make sure that students do not lose the literacy skills they gained throughout the previous school year. In order to maintain these skills, we are encouraging students to complete the Summer Reading assignment for their respective schools.

For English 2 Honors Summer Reading, you are required to read two books.

Shepard students should read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and select one title from the AP Language and Composition List of nonfiction titles. Then students can complete the fiction discussion questions and the nonfiction discussion questions for the books and be prepared to engage in discussions, Socratic Seminars, and other collaborative class work using their selected books and their answers to the discussion questions as resources.

Richards students should read 1984 by George Orwell and select one title from the AP Language and Composition List of nonfiction titles. Then students can complete the fiction discussion questions and the nonfiction discussion questions for the books and be prepared to engage in discussions, Socratic Seminars, and other collaborative class work using their selected books and their answers to the discussion questions as resources.

Eisenhower students can read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and must select one title from the AP Language and Composition List of nonfiction titles. Then students can complete the fiction discussion questions and the nonfiction discussion questions for the books and be prepared to engage in discussions, Socratic Seminars, and other collaborative class work using their selected books and their answers to the discussion questions as resources.
