AP Literature and Composition Summer Reading Program
"An AP English Literature and Composition course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students consider a work's structure, style, and themes, as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone."

Welcome to AP Literature and Composition. This rigorous, college-level course will help you navigate the long-running, and on-going conversation of human thought through creative works of fiction. As you analyze the techniques and methods authors use to impart their purpose and to entertain their readers, you will gain a greater respect for the craft of writing and develop a deeper faculty for analytic thinking. Summer reading will help you prepare.
Summer Reading Mixtape Assignment
This year we'd like you to experience literature in all of its forms. Watch a great film, read a new novel, seek out some poetry! Experience and curate a list of multiple forms of literature and explain why they are quality pieces of literature using the Summer Reading Mixtape form. The most important thing is we are encouraging students to read, watch and listen to as much literature as possible this summer and come prepared to share with their teachers and classmates! If you're looking for some book recommendations, feel free to check out this year's Lincoln Reading List , the AP Literature Recommended Reading List, or your local library.
