Hi There
Hope all is well.
The Suburban Brothers have taken a few weeks off from gigging during the holidays to spend time with family and friends. However, we've got plenty of shows coming up at some great venues all over Long Island (and even one upstate), including Maxwell's, Great South Bay Brewery, Riverhead Ciderhouse, Murphy's Pub, Moonlight Cafe and Nicky's of Centerport. You can click SuburbanBrothersFacebook or SuburbanBrothersWebsite for info about our upcoming schedule. Come join the fun.
Now for 12 RANDOM THOUGHTS...
1. Can vegetarians listen to Meat Loaf?
2. If Miley Cyrus joined an Australian pop band, would it be called Men at Twerk?
3. Is there a Dr. Hellmans at the Mayo Clinic?
4. If Frodo met Gandalf in Liverpool, would the movie have been named Lord of the Ringos?
5. Can you get a free bird at Stew Lynyrd Skynyrd?
6. If Paul McCartney collaborated with rapper Offset, would the song be named Let It Cardi B?
7. Led Zeppelin's singer was recently hospitalized due to severe dehydration. Luckily, the doctor quickly assessed the situation and yelled, "Water the Plant!"
8. If Cat Stevens lost his hearing, would he consider changing his name to Def Leppard?
9. How come a very famous country musician is named Keith Urban?
10. If Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt was the manager of the Rolling Stones, would they have been called The Flynt Stones?
11. Is it really progress if airplanes get faster and airports get slower?
12. If bullshit was electricity, would there still be an energy crisis?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all! Once again, friends and family gather and good times are had by all.

Hi There
Hope all is well.
Come on down to my Birthday Bash at Mary Dowling's this Friday Night, 7 to 10pm. The presence of my friends will be my presents!
As I continue to age (somewhat gracefully, I hope), I have come to ponder life, the universe and the rising price of beer and burgers. Here are a few important things I've learned over the years...
* Life is like playing Frisbee. You need at least two people and a lot depends on which way the wind is blowing.
* Time is not money. Time is more important than money.
* Dessert is essential to a good life.
* Don't put off until tomorrow what you can avoid all together.
* Rough times can still be the good old days.
* If something is broken, try duct tape first.
* Keep your friends close and don't have any enemies.

Suburban Brothers News Flash 2017...
The music industry is going wild with word that Mariah Carey is joining the infamous Suburban Brothers Band! Intense behind the scenes meetings are taking place right now. Bob Pinnola, Guitarist at Law, is handling the rough negotiations (with a slight hangover). Many unforeseen issues and problems have arisen. Bar owners have already contacted Bob, informing him that band members will no longer get free drinks.
However, in many ways, Mariah is a perfect fit to join the band. Think about it... The Suburban Brothers rarely get the song lyrics right. Mariah likes to banter with the crowd when she's supposed to be singing, not unlike Bob telling "jokes" in the middle of songs. The Suburban Brothers don't have a highly qualified professional sound engineer (and apparently, neither does Mariah). Mariah's wardrobe will blend nicely with drummer Freddy's stylish attire (and they can change outfits together in between sets, pending approval from Freddy's wife, of course). When you think about it, it seems that every successful band these days needs someone who wears way too much makeup and has had cosmetic plastic surgery. Moreover, Cousin Mikey is tired of being the only diva in the band and welcomes someone with better cleavage.
Their set lists are already being updated, adding new songs that will fit the band's new sound and image, such as:
*One Way Out of Tune
*Over the Hills and Far Off Key
*You Can't Always Hear What You Want
*Proud Mariah
*Can't Find My Way Offstage
*Beyond the Seacrest
*The Time Squares They Are a'Changing
*No Woman, No Sing
And last but not least, Bob and Mariah are working on a heartwarming"holiday remix" for next year...
*All I Want for Christmas Is To Sue You

SUBURBAN NEW YEAR!
December 21, 2016
Hi There
Hope all is well. For Christmas this year... I wish for pizza on Earth!
This is the time of year that you should appreciate the "little things" in life... like the very small amount of money left in your wallet on December 26th.
This is the special time of year that you get to see some of your friends that you've been able to successfully avoid for eleven months.
These are the golden moments when you spend days fixing and cleaning up your wonderful home for your holiday guests and the place gets trashed in about 15 minutes!

Hi There
Hope all is well as we roll into Labor Day Weekend. We should all enjoy every last drop of Summer 2016.
There are some new political parties on the horizon trying to edge into the presidential race. These new parties have some innovative and catchy slogans. Here are just a few.
The Listerine Party... Let's Make America Gargle Again!
The Grateful Dead Party... A Friend of the Devil is a Friend of Mine!
The Let's Talk Forever and Do Nothing Party... Vote for Phil Abuster!
The Pessimistic Party... Noah Candoo is the Candidate for You!
The Procrastination Party... We're still working on a slogan!
The Pink Floyd Party... Our Candidate is Comfortably Dumb!
The Led Zeppelin Party... Need a Whole Lotta Laws!
The Urban Rappers Party... Yo!
The Suburban Rabbis Party... Oy!

Hi There.
Hope all is well.
Come join the SUBURBAN BROTHERS BAND at our 20th ANNIVERSARY SHOW on Friday Night, Feb. 19th from 7pm to 10:30pm at the place where it all began... LILY FLANAGAN'S 528 Main St., Islip NY 11751 (631) 581-1550. We'll be accompanied by our Suburban Brothers Band horn section... The Long Island Striped Brass. (Legal Notice: Watch out for some stand up comedy. It could happen without warning.) We've estimated that having played at Lily's for 20 years, about 5 times a year, it could be our 100th show there! Once again, friends gather and good times are had by all.
Now for some deeply analytical policital news commentary...
Words don't seem to mean much in this presidential campaign. I'm starting to figure out what the candidates are really saying when they spin the facts. When they say "Bi-partisan Cooperation" what they are actually referring to is "Science Fiction." When they say "It's time for a vigorous debate of the issues" what they are actually saying is "Let's dress up nice and do some serious trash talking."

Hi There
Hope all is well.
The Suburban Brothers have been playing up a storm this summer at great places like Flynn's, Lily Flanagan's, Sunset Restaurant, Bayberry Beach & Tennis Club, Islip Street Fair, Bayside Clam Bar and my front porch!
Upcoming shows include:
***Wednesday August 5th, 6pm-8pm @ LILY FLANAGAN'S 528 Main St., Islip NY 11751 (631) 581-1550. Come join us at Suffolk County Legislator TOM CILMI's 5th Annual WING FLING. It's become a Suburban Brothers tradition, with Tom joining in on guitar and vocals. It will be an evening of fun, friends, food, drinks and plenty of Lily's famous hot wings! Go to www.tomcilmi.com for more info. Always fun at the Fling!
***Thursday August 13th, 6pm to 10:30pm @ FLYNN'S 1 Cayuga St., Ocean Bay Park, Fire Island NY 11770 (631) 583-5000. We're back at one of Fire Island's hottest venues, playing cool music as the sun slowly sets on the Great South Bay! Once again, friends gather and good times are had by all.
Now for some "important" news commentary...
The world has gone nuts. Everything is for sale. The music industry is part of the problem. Back in the day (uh oh), music was for the people. It expressed our hopes and dreams. These days, things have gotten so bad that classic songs are being remixed to make car commercials...
The Beach Boys- Help Me Honda!
Jimmy Buffett- Wasting Away Again in Maserativille!
The Hollies- He Ain't Heavy, He's My Buick!
Bob Marley- No Woman, No Chrysler!
The Moody Blues- Nights In White Saturns!
Aerosmith- Toyotas in the Attic!
Dion and the Belmonts- Runaround Subaru!
The Beatles- Lexus Be!
Led Zeppelin- Over The Hills and Ferrari Away!
The Allman Brothers- Stormy Hyundai!

Hi There
Hope all is well.
As we all try to put aside the hustle and bustle of the commercial side of Christmas, with all the shopping and running around, you might enjoy listening to a song I wrote called "Daddy, Can We Put Up the Lights?" It's about a little kid asking his Dad if they can put up the Christmas lights because the holiday means something special to the kid, something that maybe gets lost every now and then in our modern world.

***TRUE STORY***
So... I'm at the gym yesterday and there's a young couple working out together. The guy and girl are in their mid-twenties. They strut around, each taking turns, sweating and grimacing, while doing multiple sets of 10 reps on the curling machine. After each 10 reps, they flex their muscles at each other, and then make out, right in front of the machine! After swapping saliva, they get back to pumping iron. It's rather funny, to say the least. With all the open space and mirrors, everyone in the gym notices. After they finish up their work-out/make-out mating ritual at the curling machine, they move on to the next machine. At that point, I finish up at the bench press and move over to the curling machine. I sit down and look at the weight pin, expecting Hercules and Zeena to have been pumping some serious weight. It's set at 20 pounds! Without thinking, I look at them, point at the weight pin and blurt out loud, "Twenty pounds!!! I had a meatball hero for lunch that weighed more than that!!" Needless to say, pandemonium breaks out in the gym. Hercules and Zeena scurry out, red faced, making believe they both got simultaneous cell phone calls. I've got to admit that this middle aged Suburban Brother (and Grandfather) felt pretty good getting back to my evening workout, realizing that this was actually my second workout of the day, having curled a meatball hero for lunch.

Now for some extremely important news and analysis...
Islip got 13.26 inches of rain in four hours. My law office was flooded and my phone, fax and wi-fi were out. So, I decided to leave my suburban Long Island worries behind and fly to the picturesque and peaceful wine country of Northern California. Lucky for me, I arrived just in time for the biggest earthquake they've had in 25 years! First a flood, then an earthquake. What's next, I get hit by a falling meteor?! (That would be a real pain in the asteroid.)
I observed many things while in California:
a) For some reason, people seemed to know right away that I was from New York.
b) GPS does not work in San Francisco. It told me to make four lefts and a right, just so I could go straight, which is proof positive that, in San Francisco, it is very difficult to go straight.
c) Everybody rides bikes for their health. However, they pay no attention whatsoever to silly things like oncoming traffic.
d) People build houses everywhere, including on high cliffs and sides of mountains, which is great for the view. However, they appear to be surprised and upset when the house slides into the sea after Uncle Louie eats his fourth burrito and sits down heavily on the couch to watch the Giants game.
e) Wine tasting is a scam. It's rather absurd for the wine "expert" to pour 3 teeny drops of wine into your glass and then tell you to enjoy a hearty wine that is "robust, organic and approachable." I don't know about you, but I've approached many glasses of wine in my life and not one glass ever ran away.
f) I went swimming in the chilly waters of the San Francisco Bay. People thought I was crazy but I was wrapped up in the beauty of the moment. I looked to the left and saw the Golden Gate Bridge, thinking of it's rich history. Then, I looked to the right and saw Alcatraz Prison, thinking of my many clients over the years who helped finance my expensive vacation in California!

Hi There
Hope all is well as we cruise on into Summer 2014.
Come celebrate Friday the Thirteenth with the Suburban Brothers Band at Nicky's on the Bay, South Clinton Ave., Bay Shore NY 11706 (631) 206-3311. Excellent indoor/outdoor venue right on the water in the Bay Shore Marina. This is our 7th summer playing at Nicky's. Always fun. Once again, friends will gather and good times will be had by all.
In other important local news...
Guy walks into my law office yesterday and says he wants to get a divorce. I ask, "Why?" He says, "Because my sex life is like a Ferrari." I say, "Why is that so bad?' He says, "Because I don't have a Ferrari!"

Now for some entertainment "news"...
The entire global musical-industrial-complex is experiencing an international cultural earthquake. It's so shocking that Beyonce is reconsidering the urban theme of her next album. It's so important that Usher is investing heavily in all things suburban. Artists everywhere are leaving the fast city life. And the event that caused all this... The Suburban Brothers now have television commercials on Channel 12 News. Music critics say that they have never seen a band so swiftly climb up the ladder. The ever youthful (hah!) Suburban Brothers had to play a mere 3,000 gigs for about 20 years all over suburban Long Island, New York, Connecticut and Maryland before attaining the spectacular fame and fortune of having a short ad in between the weather and a story about lawn care in Speonk.

Hi There.
Hope all is well.
This Friday Night, Feb. 8th, from 6pm to 10 pm, the Suburban Brothers Band will be at Lily Flanagan's, 528 Main St., Islip NY 11751 for our Third Annual Walter Erwood Community Fundraiser. Live music, great raffles, free food buffet and good people. See the attached poster which includes a photo of the band actually all singing and playing the same song at the same time. (A very rare poster, indeed.) Once again, friends will gather and a good time will be had by all.
In other very important news...
America can hardly wait to see the outcome of the Super Bowl. Many fans want to see which team's quarterback is more successful. Other people are intrigued by the brother against brother coaching match-up. What I want to know is... Will Beyonce be able to successfully lip-synch the entire half time show?
I'm getting kind of tired of these over-dubbed fake cool trendy Half Time Shows. We all deserve something better, hipper, with some big stars doing their big hits, re-made especially for Super Bowl Sunday...
Pat Benatar... Hit Me With Your Best Cheap Shot.
Eric Clapton... Nobody Loves You When You're Fourth Down and Out.
The Who... We Won't Get Flagged Again.
REM... It's the Endzone of the World As We Know It.
Rolling Stones... I Can't Get No Concussion.
Allman Brothers... Ain't Wasting Timeouts No More.
The Monkees... Daydream Receiver.
Lady GaGa... Poke a Facemask.
Carole King... You've Got a Fracture.

Hi There.
I hope all is well. We're all going through a tough time, some tougher than others. We're going to do what we always do... stick together, help each other out and bounce back.
So how many news reporters did we see on TV last week standing on dark suburban corners somewhere, in knee deep water, next to dangerous downed power lines, in heavy rain and gale force winds... sternly advising us to stay home because you'd have to be crazy to stand in knee deep water, next to dangerous downed power lines, in rain and gale force winds. We're supposed to take safety advice from this wet nut?! Then, just when you think you can't take it anymore, you have to smile because you look behind the TV reporter and see a bunch of crazy kids in the background dancing around and high fiving each other. Ahh, to be young (and stupid) again.
This Friday Night, November 9th from 6 to 10 pm, the Suburban Brothers Band will be back at Lily Flanagan's, 528 Main St., Islip, NY 11751.
It will be a great evening of everything you want: Live music, every kind of beverage, drink specials, good food, electricity, heat and working plumbing! We'll be featuring some Hurricane Sandy related songs, such as.... You Can't Always Get LIPA When You Want. While My Sheetrock Gently Weeps. Johnny Be Good and Wet. Long and Winding Gas Line.
Once again, friends will gather and a good time will be had by all.

Hi There.
Hope all is well.
The Suburban Brothers Band had a great time last week. We opened for Steve Forbert in the Putnam Valley Sunset Concert.
Even though I was very clearly warned by the concert promoters that Forbert generally didn't talk with anyone before a show, I figured that if I could talk with Judges in Supreme Court, government officials in municipal hearings and convicted felons in jail cells (there could be some overlap of those three groups), I could quite easily speak with a fellow rocker. Therefore, I walked right up to him and kibitzed with him before the concert, and yes, he does now have his own Suburban Brothers Band refrigerator magnet. He had to laugh when he read our motto... Musicians*Songwriters*Taxpayers. We all had a lot of fun that day. Thanks again to my good friend Bob Cinque and all the folks in Putnam Valley for having us play.
This Thursday Night, July 26th we will be back at Flynn's in Ocean Bay Park on Fire Island. A little slice of heaven just across the bay. For info about the Moonchaser Cruise out of Captree or the Bay Shore ferry schedule, go to www.flynnsfireislandny.com
This Friday Night, July 27th we will be at Nicky's on the Bay from 7 pm to 10 pm in the Bay Shore Marina. Great indoor/outdoor venue right on the water. This is our 4th summer playing there. Always fun. For more info, go to www.nickysonthebay.com
Once again, friends will gather and good times will be had by all.
