Lessons are offered as private sessions of 30-60 minutes each. All lessons are held on a weekly basis. If there is class availability, parents of children in the Little Mozart's program may opt for 30 minute lessons, twice a week. The early stages of ear development and musical appreciation are most noticeable, and giving your child a stronger foundation with a higher frequency of lessons will be most beneficial. A child's first teacher is their most important and most influential teacher. My role is to cultivate a strong musical foundation and an enjoyment for musical expression.
MY PHILOSOPHY
It is my passion to help children in bringing out their love for music. While taking music lessons at my studio, I strive to guide each student into developing healthy technique while exposing all children to a wide variety of repertoire. While working in accordance with the music curriculum of the Royal Conservatory of Music (R.C.M.), I dedicate a full-time teaching career to tailoring all lesson plans to each student individually. Weekly improvement and practice guides are kept in a notebook to ensure well-rounded progress.
My interactive approach to learning music will encourage all children to develop a good ear as well as a high potential for reading music. I have years of experience working with students of all abilities and learning styles, and attest to a teaching method that has cultivated young pianists into becoming teachers themselves, performers or well-rounded young adults who simply have an appreciation for music.
PRACTICE AND PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
A regular practice schedule of a minimum 5 days/week is required of all students. Practice should be done on a tuned piano, although a full-sized keyboard may be satisfactory as a temporary instrument. Weekly instruction and assignments are provided as guidance during practice sessions.
As a general rule, 1st-2nd year students are encouraged to a minimum of 30 minutes of practice per day. Intermediate students are encouraged to 45 minutes/day and a minimum of 1 hour/day is required for advanced piano students. For those preparing for an examination or competition, practice times will be expected to increase.
Parental support is essential for a student's musical development. A notebook is updated weekly to aid in developing effective practice habits and work ethic. Please check your child's notebook regularly and ensure to provide a positive practice environment free from interruptions. Daily access to a tuned piano in a well lit environment will provide your child with the proper tools to succeed.
To help develop self-discipline and good work ethic, set aside time each day for practice. Younger children or beginners may require further supervision. Please feel free to contact your instructor at any time with questions or concerns regarding your child's progress.
