Carol Burke née Kong was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She grew up in a musical family, and is daughter to a music teacher and vocalist. Carol began formal piano studies at age 3. At the age of 8, she was selected amongst the top 10 ranking to become apart of the Junior Special Advanced Course (JSAC) at Yamaha Music School. To develop a greater understanding of musical composition, Carol studied various string and woodwind instruments including the violin, cello and flute.
Carrying a strong musical foundation in piano performance, music theory and composition, Carol is actively involved with piano competitions, such as, but not limited to, Kiwanis Music Festival, CCC Toronto Piano Competition and North York Music Festival. She holds an ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto) Diploma in Piano Performance, and is also a registered teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Carol has over 10 years of experience as a music educator, specializing in piano performance. She was previously a member of the teaching staff at the Ontario Conservatory of Music, Ottawa Conservatory of Music and Centerpointe Music Academy. As well, Carol was a volunteer in the Ottawa Heart of the City program, which delivers piano instruction to elementary schools of inner city neighbourhoods. Currently, Carol actively maintains her private studios in Ajax, Ontario.
