A good example of string designs being used in history is when we look at the design applied in ship' sails. When we look at modern day reproductions and illustrations of pirate ships we can see that each on has it's own pirate flag, a symbol that sets it apart form others. Or when we look at large ships belonging to countries we can see that they have their own country's mark on it. All of those pictures use string design along geometry, symmetry with varying string color to create a distinct design.

Also when we look at flags with distinct and complex symbols on them, there must be string design along with the regular flag design in order to make them interesting. String design must also be used with creating clothing and decorative weaving on the clothing. At times we might see clothing with nice design that we did not know originated from cool string designs. Though simple weaving is involved, string design plays a large part.
