A Year, A Few Months and Some More

The project materializes the intersections between the duration of copyright in the field of intellectual property law alongside the processes of state-building and atempts to redraw the notion of modern piracy, in the case study of the country in the Middle East seen through a several places in the world.
In 2020 invited by Alserkal Arts Foundation to research residency program in Dubai I noticed that the upcoming 50th anniversary of the federal unification of the Emirates (in late 2021) coincides with the expiration of economic rights for cultural production in the states - so anything produced in the country will gradually start to become part of the "Public Property" from early 2022. While society and public domain existed in divergent timescales, we could have imagined that they might align and become briefly synchronized at some point in the future.
A Year, a Few Months and Some More (2020) is a set of randomized clocks referring to five cities in different time zones. These, however, are not aligned with longitudes of the world, but operate as countdown, as device which accumulate time of the public domain of a selected country but elsewhere in the world.
