Lots of work is being done at Stow Hill Community Garden this month! We trimmed some trees behind the lot to improve the view of the river & amount of light available to the garden, gained a park bench for seating, and built an open shed for tools and material storage.
We received a donation of wood chips to help even out our sloping plot, and started to coordinate with the Troy Farmers Market and the Zero Waste Group to accept and process their compostable waste! To handle the higher volume of compost materials, we constructed an additional compost bin. Our volunteers helped spread the wood chips around the plot and we used some of the excess wood chips to add carbon to our compost piles. Stow hill community garden sends a big thank you to TJ Kennedy, for coordinating the compost program and the wood chips delivery! Check out the Stow Hill Compost Project Flyer for more details on what can be composted and where to drop off compostable waste!
Look at that pile of woodchips!

Pro tip: Adding pulled & dried weeds, wood chips, or lawn clippings on top of food waste reduces odor.
A very full bin in the back left corner and a new bin ready for our old turned compost in the back right corner.
