About Us

The Stow Hill Community Garden is located at 20 Crockett Ave in South Troy, NY and open to the public all hours.

The garden plots are FREE to those interested in developing and maintaining them. We have no dues, membership costs, or rental fees. However, you must sign a waiver and purchase your own supplies to develop the plot & construct a bed.

The lot used to be a house, but due to the hilly nature of the area, the foundation of the house became unstable and started sliding back down the hill into the back of the property. The house was demolished for safety reasons and the lot was covered with fill. The lot then remained vacant for about 20 years. Because of this, the soil is VERY rocky, with concrete and brick pieces throughout, and a high likelihood of metal contamination-- use the local soil your own risk! The garden was founded in 2017 by members of the Stow Hill Neighborhood association and started as a container garden due to soil concerns. In 2018, the group invested in raised beds with donated soil.

Today, there are five raised bed plots with plans to expand. Facilities include a water barrel, shared tool shed, seed bank, compost bins, open storage shed, and insect hotel. Come plant with us! Contact stowhillgarden@gmail.com
