We are proud to announce that starting in August 2014 Stoneridge Elementary will be a Project Lead the Way School! Project Lead the Way is a program that introduces students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts and allows them to grow with confidence and interest in these areas. The program allows them to be problem solvers and employ critical thinking. Every Stoneridge student, Kindergarten through 5th grade, will have access to this curriculum starting next year. You can go to this site to get more information and watch a 4 minute video describing the program: https://www.pltw.org/our-programs/launch The modules vary by grade level but some examples would be Kindergarten students building a structure to withstand force, 3rd graders applying their knowledge of mechanisms and magnetic interactions to solve a design problem, and our 5th graders designing, programming, and building a mobile robot.
Our school has become more STEM focused over the last year and we will continue to focus on these areas. Engineering is part of the Next Generation Science standards and we are very proud to have Project Lead the Way to help our students excel with the new standards. Attached you will find descriptions of what every grade level can look forward to next year. We hope you and your family are as excited as we are for this new program!
