Save Your Drains…
Most of the grease that causes sewer overflows comes from kitchen sinks, even those with garbage disposals. Items that should not go down the drain include:
· Cooking oil
· Butter and margarine
· Shortening
· Lard
· Food scraps
· Sauces
· Dairy products
· Syrup & Gravy
Instead, compost food scraps and place hot grease in a can and dispose of it in your household trash when solidified. Or, take used cooking oil to the Alpha Ridge Landfill for recycling. Visit howardcountymd.gov/CookingOil.htm for more information.
