A special reunion was held at St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen on Sunday, May 28, 1967 when all fourteen members of
the confirmation class of 1917, together with their spouses, celebrated their 50th anniversary with the Eitzen
area members as hosts.
The day began by attending morning worship service in St. Luke’s Church, followed by a dinner in the church
social room.
A program, consisting of readings by Edwin Meiners and Mrs Martin Deters, songs by Mrs. Leo Pottratz and
Martin Deters, a talk by Rev. Mel Graupmann, Pastor of St. Luke’s Church and group singing which included
an anniversary song arrangement by Mrs. Leo Pottratz, was followed by a social hour of visiting and
reminiscing.
After two years of German school, four days a week with Rev. F.C. Klein, the pastor and also instructor, the
class was confirmed April 1, 1917. It was the last class to be confirmed in the old church. This church was
struck by lightening and destroyed in June 1917.
Attending were Alfred Spellmeyer, Frank Haar, Edward Deters, William Brumm, Fremont Schulze, Edwin
Meiners, Arden Wiemerslage, Leo Pottratz, Lucy Meyer Wiebke, Frances Kannenberg Carroll, Nora Haar
Tubant, Hannah Meiners Hagen, Ruth Meyer Deters and Lillie Weber Klinski.
