The cornerstone that the church council talks about is the one that has been on the Paul Meiners farm for the last 100 years. My dad, Paul Meiners, told us children about this stone when we were old enough. He told us after the St. John’s church burned, the members of the congregation were told that anyone who could use the rock from that foundation could come and get it. Dad was just 18 and going to build a barn, so he took his team of horses and wagon and got the rock which included the cornerstone for his barn. When we children were old enough he showed us the cornerstone where it had been put and told us about this special cornerstone. Now, thanks to his grandson, David Meiners, it has been brought to St. Luke’s so more people can enjoy seeing it and to continue its legacy. (December 2018)
