Text Book
Students will create a Book using 3DS Max. The design will be based on information below. The book will be reconstructed in 3d, using techniques covered in class. Grading will be based upon ability to meet deadlines, follow directions, and overall level of polish on the model.

Project Specifications:
Open 3ds max.
Set project name project directory as Book.
Save scene as Book_001.
Create a Box.
Box Parameters should be. Length 50.00 Width 50.00 Height 10.00 if you don't see it check under modify.
Right click on Box and covert to editable poly.
Using polygon selection, select three sides.
Use inset to make pages and cover.
Use extrude to make pages make sure under settings it is set to local normal.
Unselect everything. If you do not you will not be able to us the tools in the unwrap uvw.
Under modifier list select unwrap uvw .
Select edges that represent seems of the pages.
Under peel the seems click convert edges to seems.
Select the edges that represent the cover then click convert edges to seems.
Using polygon selection select a polygon then select polygon selection to the seems button.
Click pelt map under peel.
A pelt map window will open.
Click start pelt, then start relax, then commit.
Then do the same with the cover.
Make sure the polys that represent the pages and the cover are in the 1 to 1 space ( the checker area)
Click tools the render uvw template.
Click render UV Template.
Click save image.
Save this in you images folder as a .png Named book_uv
Open in photoshop add texture of your choosing
Save as Book_T in your images folder.
In 3ds Max open your material library.( the hot key for it is M)
We are using the compact material editor. ( If you do not see the 6 spheres for materials then select modes at the top and change it to compact material editor)
Under diffuse click the box beside the gray color and choose bitmap.
Select your image Book_T.
Drag material to your book.
Click Show Shaded Material in View Port.
Save scene as Book_001.
Close 3dsmax.
Zip project by right clicking on you project you named Book and go to send to compressed folder.
Upload the zip file to black board.

The final model will be submitted to me via blackboard before class. We will present and critique final models in class.
