Professional
I have been teaching secondary science for 7 years. I began my career at Community Charter Middle School on the border of San Fernando and Los Angeles, CA. After two years of working with 7th and 8th grade students on their physical science and algebra I moved laterally in the PUC organization to California
Academy for Liberal Studies Early College High School (CALS ECHS). There I taught integrated science, algebra, oceanography, physics, college readiness, and AP environmental science for four years.
During my six year stint teaching in Los Angeles I also went to school to get my teaching credentials in geosciences, general science, and physics. After I recieved my credentials I continued at California State University, Northridge to receive my masters degree in science education. I was also fortunate to have my thesis, on the effects of field work on student achievement and motivation, selected for presentation at the National Science Teachers' Association national conference in New Orleans. After that degree, I was addicted to school so I continued on with my masters in geosciences from Mississippi State University.
In 2009 I moved to Boulder, CO and New Vista High School, where I currently teach biology and physical science. I am now also an advisor to the newly formed Earth Task Force, which is our student sustainability club.
