My week spent at WAAF entailed working side by side with not only WAAF staff members, but the CEO herself. I got to learn all about WAAF’s partner NGOs, such as Hope For Future Generations and STOP TB, when I helped interview them for a documentary that captured the organization’s partnerships and impact on the country. Later that week I was also able to participate in a outreach clinic at Agbogba Community Park. This clinic allowed for locals to get tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, eyes, and blood pressure. While I was able to witness first hand how public health was administered, I was also able to help with the organization of records and management of people within the clinic. Another aspect of my duties entailed going out into the surrounding community to try and recruit locals to come to the clinic and get tested. This experience was eye opening because I was able to observe not only how medicine is administered, but how it is perceived by the general public.
