What is STEM education?

STEM education is the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math by the youth. It encourages us to go above and beyond with our knowledge. Through studying these subjects, it is expected that we gradually get to the point to where we not only understand, but excel in each one of the subjects. STEM education is meant to take us from limited knowledge to full comprehension of science and math. It encourages us to reach our full potential. Schools are trying to expand on their teaching of STEM in order to further develop math and science skills. This is order to make sure that today's youth is ready to go far with their studies and knowledge.

Why is STEM education important?

STEM prepares us in the evaluation of information, and it equips us with the ability to be better at solving tough problems. It prepares us to be able to apply what we have learned to situations. STEM learning increases our chances of being able to face the challenges that are in our nation. It can help us get to the top in terms of the comprehension of math and science. STEM education gives us the chance to reach our full potential. It will allow us to critically understand our world so that we will eventually be able to change it.

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a constructivist instructional approach where students are engaged in meaningful inquiry of personal interest to them and where collaboration and personalized learning are emphasized. STEMSOS is a rigorous, interdisciplinary, standards-focused, and engaging STEM teaching approach that is teacher-facilitated, student-centered and directed through sets of project- and inquiry-based (P&IBL) projects. STEMSOS PBL approach is to maintain the focus on standards-based teaching while enriching and extending the learning of students through PBL projects. The goal is to promote not only collaborative skills and student ownership of learning but also to promote student success in state and national standards.

STEMSOS PBL Showcase is designed to promote and share exemplary student work in PBL projects that can serve as valuable learning and teaching tools for students, parents, teachers, and other educators.
