The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) requires a lot of effort to master but can be rewarding if you wish to become fluent and lose most traces of your accent - GOOD LUCK. If you want to try this set aside a lot of time. If you master the IPA, you will be prepared to speak clearly in multiple languages. This approach will work especially well if you have a musical ear or perfect pitch. Essential for ESL teachers, thespians, and polygots.

Note: The British take your accent much more seriously than Americans. In Britain, your accent is a regional and class marker. There are British actors who can switch to a perfect American accent. An accent class for actors can be a fun way for you to learn how to modify your accent.
British English has more vowel and diphthong sounds than American English. A good dictionary will show you how certain words are pronounced and often spelled differently in the two respective branches of English.
