There are different ways to diagram a sentence, and experts may disagree about how to "correctly" diagram complex sentences. I learned the linguistics approach to sentence diagramming in graduate school.

Sentence diagramming should be used as a learning tool, and NOT as a test of proficiency.

AND the same thing can be said for grammar in general.
