Rise, Fall, and Rebirth Under the Banner of the Blue X
Part 1 of the History of Star Revolution X - Early 2012 to 2016
Part 1 of the History of Star Revolution X - Early 2012 to 2016
This recount of Star Revolution X (SRX) history has been put together through first accounts of those who were present during events at the time, interviews with ex-team members, and the historical archives of SRX's longest continuously serving member, DreadLordNaf.
Historical archives from DreadLordNaf indicates that the team was started sometime in 2012, though possibly in 2011 or earlier. There are rumors and vague reports of people seeing the Blue X Banner much earlier though in an early-era of SS known as C1, but this has never been verified and the exact date of origin for the team is still shrouded in mystery. The first Director and reported founder of the team was a player named Ninx who also went by the name FrostFang. DreadLordNaf's first documented encounter with Ninx was of him flying around in a Testudo and using acme drones to heal teammates. He subsequently went on to recruit DreadLordNaf who currently remains the longest serving member to have continuously flown under the Banner of the Blue X, and whose first-hand accounts serve as the basis for much of SRX history. The original founding goal of SRX was to be a team where new players could learn about the game and have a friendly and supportive place to play.
Throughout 2012 SRX grew at a rapid pace. Co-led by Xantra and XxFrostBitexX, many of the players recruited during this time helped to develop and establish the team such as Canis, Eridian, mcList, Pan, Ahadia, SunDog60, NO2, AncientWings, T3MP, wallie, stefan, and the always upbeat and never boring Acedousstar1. The team prospered and grew but due to a contentious relationship and account sharing between the team Director Ninx, and his brother Chino who displayed extreme anti-social behavior, relations with other teams would occasionally result in a /war or PvP action against innocent team members. These led to series of minor conflicts, both internal and external to the team, and while insignificant at the time, it foreshadowed things to come.
As SRX became larger, the team became a target. Team AUSTRALIA was one of the first teams to launch a major attack on an SRX-owned wild space system which occurred shortly after a universe reset. Their high level players abused the pvp-level restrictions and hired a rogue mercenary from all chat to attack the SRX systems while they healed him since they couldn't attack (or be attacked) directly due to their far higher level. Following a failed attempt to retake the system from AUSTRALIA relations with other teams remained erratic due to the behavior and account sharing issues between Ninx and Chino. Xantra who had served as pillar of stability in the councilor role and wrote the now famous Star Sonata guide to Life, the Universe and Everything while on SRX, eventually departed to join Dark Traders. In the meantime numerous PvP actions started happening against SRX on a more regular basis.
This is the only known image to be recovered from the black boxes of the destroyed stations of Luminous. The image shows the final moments where the transference bases were desperately trying to heal the STM stations guarding the main warp. To the left is the undefended “backdoor jux” that contributed to the ultimate defeat of the system. In the far distance you can see a trade slave from DreadLordNaf urgently trying to haul nuke waste to the stations to keep them powered during battle.
The first major effort by SRX to settle in Wild space in a coordinated fashion occurred in the Luminous system in late 2012. It was abundant in habitable planets, natural vegetation and minerals. At the call of team leaders SRX members universe-wide abandoned the safe sanctuary of Celestial Garden and relocated their bases to Luminous. The system was developed, fortified and became a source of pride and the central economic hub of the team. But unfortunately this prosperity did not last.
Team Pantalones allied with several other pirate teams launched a coordinated attack on Luminous toward the end of 2012 by warping in through the undefended backdoor jux entrance. Despite their best efforts the SRX members online at the time could not defend against the coordinate surprise attack especially since Pantalones was exploiting the PvP-level restriction that allowed their Shield Monkeys, who were out of PvP-level range from the SRX defense bases, to never be targeted, while their lower levels attacked the bases directly. The battle resulted in the complete annihilation of the SRX presence in Luminous.
Since SRX members had centralized so many of their assets in Luminous the attack was catastrophic both economically and morally. Following the defeat a number of players quit the team, or quit playing SS altogether out of protest at the broken PvP game mechanics and many have never returned to this day.
It should be noted that shortly before the move to Luminous SRX leadership decided to alter the now famous and well-known blue X logo of SRX and changed it to a red X. The new banner was supposed to represent progress, essentially a “great leap forward” in terms of the rapid progression of the team and where it would go next. Because the Banner of the Red X was flown during one of the team's most devastating losses, the flag was later changed back and longtime members swore never again to use it due to the symbolism and pain for which it now represents and is associated with.
While grainy, this close-up image is the last remaining depiction of the Red X to have survived the great purge by DreadLordNaf, who after being promoted to Councilor following the loss at Luminous ordered the complete destruction of the now infamous banner. All bases and ships were ordered to pull the Red X banner down and destroy it and the original print pattern was burned with its ashes spread over a 100 star systems so that it could never be flown again.
Membership loss wasn’t the only loss following Luminous. Shortly after its fall, SRX leadership, particularly Ninx, made one of the most catastrophic decisions in SRX history which came close to destroying the team. Ninx decided to abruptly quit the game but not before making one of his current councilors the team Director but he didn't bother to check that the particular councilor in question had already stopped playing himself. SRX was now leaderless and remained without an official Director for almost 6 months for the first half of 2013. Due to the inability to utilize Directorship functions and longtime leaders and officers now in absentia the team slowly drifted apart toward disintegration. DreadLordNaf who was made councilor after the fall of Luminous in a last-ditch effort to salvage the team could only do so much without an official team Director at the helm and shortly thereafter docked his ships in long-term station parking for an extended sleep in deep freeze.
This period after the fall of Luminous remains one of the darkest chapters in SRX history, but in that darkness there was some light. A lone officer named Ahadia remained active on the team, killing parsleys and keeping the team alive with the few other remaining members such as Acedousstar1. Ahadia essentially kept the team on life support throughout the dark times in hope that the light would draw former members back. After some time DreadLordNaf finally woke up from deep freeze and longtime member SunDog60 who had been away during the events at Luminous resurfaced.
In coordination with Ahadia and SunDog60, DreadLordNaf prayed to adum to reclaim their Director's spot so that the team could function once again, and in the summer of 2013 his prayers were answered through divine intervention. The prophets of adum made DreadLordNaf Director, and along with Ahadia, SunDog60 and a few other members they started to regrow and rebuild the team. Given his role in keeping the team alive during the dark times, DreadLordNaf ceded control of the Directorship over to Ahadia to lead SRX. Ahadia's ascension to Director in late 2013 marks the beginning of one of the longest upward trend for SRX in terms of growth and development.
With Ahadia as Director and DreadLordNaf and SunDog60 as councilors the team started to prosper and grow once again. A new generation of players joined like RelaxAndTakeNotes, TheDean, Xolz, Xylite, Zelenion and many others. While some eventually left for other teams many remain with SRX to this day. Base building in Celestial Garden increased and team profits and XPs were on a steady uptrend.
Eventually though, as abruptly as he disappeared the former founder of SRX, Ninx, returned. His return was initially welcomed by long time members who were forgiving of his past actions that almost destroyed the team. This honeymoon period was short lived though and new struggles came with his reemergence.
For various reasons both on and offline, SRX's former founder and Director, Ninx, was never the same after Luminous. Shortly after his return he engaged in a concerted effort to regain control of the team with little emphasis on the early principles of SRX to be a friendly group where members supported each other. He eventually launched an open rebellion against the leadership of Ahadia and actively tried to divide SRX members against one another into two camps: those who supported his re-ascension to Director and those who did not. This internal fight cost SRX more than a few members who didn’t want to partake in the civil strife and the rebellion significantly slowed progress and development of the team. After unanimous consent by the SRX leadership, the decision was made to remove the former founder from the team once and for all. When Ninx was informed of this he ultimately gave up his internal fight for the team and left SRX willingly in September of 2014. This would mark the last time the founder and first Director of SRX would ever again fly under the Banner of the Blue X.
The rest of 2014 was marked with moderate progress but continued struggle against numerous external threats. Victorious Secret (led by habitual team-starter/team-dissolver Helro) and The Dividing Contrast both launched attacks on SRX wild space destroying a number of bases and systems. Meanwhile Ninx (now renamed Kinetic) from his new team Imperium decided to launch a vendetta against SRX for his ouster and declared a KOS on all SRX members with special emphasis toward SunDog60 who later became Director.
Not all was bad from this era though. New policies enacted by SRX leadership after the fall of Luminous ensured more caution with base building so that wild space defeats wouldn't result in such catastrophic losses. The team also started to learn more adept base building techniques from their ongoing battles. New members also joined during this period that would go on to play a major role in shaping the future of the team such as Elaeagnus Multiflora.
After a rough 2014 marked with external battles and internal struggles, 2015 ended up being one of the most successful years ever for SRX. Ahadia stepped down from the Director's position due to offline issues and SunDog60 became Director with DreadLordNaf and Elaeagnus Multiflora as councilors. SunDog60's tenure was marked with growth and stability and many "firsts" for SRX. The first successful SRX colonization and mining in multiple Wild Space sectors that didn't end in a catastrophic loss for example. The team started to achieve production of some t21 and end-game ships and during this era DreadLordNaf became the first player on the team to achieve t22 skills and build a t22 ship in-house.
There was some minor conflict at the beginning of the universe when SunDog60 discovered an out-of-the-way star system containing gold and dark matter and, along with his team, proceeded to greedily build extraction stations to excavate the commodities. Soon after a threat appeared in the form of the pirate team Swedish Wikings. Lured by the riches they set up a blockade on the other side of the system's wormhole preventing SRX's access to the galaxy as they laid down fire on the extraction stations ultimately destroying them. While the loss was disheartening, the team searched for a suitable system elsewhere and later settled in the area around the Quotient system at the behest of team exploration leader Elaeagnus Multiflora. In the meantime SunDog60 sought vengeance against Swedish Wikings and led a short-lived guerrilla war against them, destroying their outposts and slowing their development and expansion.
Events that would later transform SRX significantly occurred partway through 2015 when a new team named Someone Else's Problem (SEP) settled next to claimed team space. It was led by an ancient space dweller named Paladinofdoom who was revered for his base building techniques as documented in the galactic knowledge base here. Initial relations between SEP and SRX were marked with mistrust and even diplomatic hostilities as territorial struggle started to unfold triggered by DreadLordNaf's attempt to corner the galactic market for Unt Faranji Trekkers.
A system scan revealed a planet between SEP and SRX space that contained ruins from the ancient Unt Faranji race. SEP decided to lay territorial claim to this system over the objections of SRX and this resulted in some tense negotiations between SRX and SEP's Director, Paladinofdoom, over the contested Unt Faranji ruins. It’s rumored that at one point SunDog60 drew up plans for an invasion of SEP space and Paladinofdoom also ratcheted up the war of words, in one exchange threatening SRX with such devastation that, "SunDog60 would drown in his own tears after seeing the carnage." The threats escalated and negotiations drug on but eventually culminated in one of the most bizarre economic treaties of the day now referred to as the, "SEP-SRX Galactic Co-Prosperity Unt Faranji Trekker Treaty."
This treaty stipulated that SRX would accept SEP control over the contested system where the Unt Faranji ruins were at in exchange for SEP promising not to extract any Unt Faranji Trekkers from the ruins so that DreadLordNaf could restrict supply of the shields universe-wide and continue his ambitious yet somewhat misguided attempt to monopolize the Unt Faranji Trekker market. This agreement, as odd as it was, is now studied in Paxian universities as a model for diplomatic-economic treaties and it played a central role in laying the foundation of trust between SRX and SEP which would influence future events.
Unt Faranji Trekkers, usually considered rather worthless, almost led to a war between SEP and SRX but instead served as the foundation for peace between the two teams. It’s rumored DreadLordNaf still possesses billions worth of unsold Unt Faranji Trekkers to this day.
Building off the success of the Unt Faranji Trekker Treaty relations continued to warm between SEP and SRX and eventually resulted in a merger with all active members of SEP moving over to SRX. When the merger was complete a literal “horde of Paladins” now flew under the ubiquitous Banner of the Blue X.
SRX remained neutral and did not participate in the Coalition of the Willing (Traders/Red Faction) peacekeeping task force of 2015 against Eminence Front. On the domestic side The Paladin Horde’s merger with SRX increased the team's knowledge about base building immensely. This knowledge along with the Paladin Horse soon came in handy during the 2015 war against "the Fleet that Fought under the Banner of the Hemp" (aka Ada Souls).
The Hemp Fleet initiated hostilities against SRX and attempted numerous BvB attacks on SRX space which resulted in killing some lightly defended border systems. Their attacks on the core SRX systems ultimately failed and the Hemp Fleet later resorted to harassment of SRX trade and travel routes. Lasting almost an entire universe length, the war was finally ended when Paladinofdoom led a final BvB attack on the Hemp Fleet stronghold and wiped out the threat completely.
Still image from the battle of Ilosia where the Paladin Horde invaded the Hemp Fleet home world, eliminating the Hemp threat at its core.
During this time and with the Paladin Horde’s assistance SRX continued to achieve more numerous firsts such as the first in-house t22 runs. Bolstered by additional new members such as Dougiefayesnuspas, aymerick, PlasmiteRebirth, Chikushodopain, Tanamant, uradingus, MindParadox, urzaserra2, ahileus and others, progress was made on Red Photon, Olympus, and many other runs. Meanwhile wild space development and colonization reached new highs. Later in early 2016 the team Everlasting merged its members into SRX.
It was also during this era that SRX realized it had a long serving member with time traveling abilities, Arias. While this hasn't been verified it has been observed that as time and the universe naturally progress, he seems to possess the ability to freeze the space-time continuum around him, keeping himself the same level year after year. Due to his abilities to freeze time around him no one is quite sure when he actually joined the team though third-hand accounts date first sighting of him back to the era of SRX creation.
SRX continues to prosper and grow to this day. Many members including Arias, Talvanen, and SunDog60 have focused their effort on preserving universal knowledge through the galactic repository known as “the wiki.”
While SRX members are quite varied and have significant differences among them, they all have one thing in common: They fly, build, fight and die together under the Banner of the Blue X and all that it represents in the past, present and future....
