Kenwood Fireworks Tuesday, June 30th, starting between 9:30 – 9:45 p.m.

Happy Independence Day!

We want you to know that the Kenwood Country Club fireworks display is scheduled for a week from Tuesday, July 1st, beginning at 9:30 – 9:45 p.m.

For those of you who are new to the neighborhood, we want you to know that the fireworks are easily visible from many points along River Road and from the cross streets of Ogden Road and Springfield Drive.  Many neighbors take blankets and/or chairs and watch from the safety of the Fourth Presbyterian Church parking lot.  During the show, traffic may slow but continues to move along River Road, so please take care.  Drivers may abruptly decide to drive onto the shoulder to watch the show, so avoid walking or sitting on the shoulder of the road.

Please be aware that, unlike most fireworks displays, these fireworks are very close by and thus very, very LOUD.  The noise may be frightening and painful for small children and pets of all sizes.  Wearing ear protection makes viewing painless and prevents hearing loss.

Plan to walk from home or park well away from River Road as Kenwood members will park along community roadways due to the limited parking space at the Club.

Please be careful if you are walking or driving along our streets at these times.  Carry a flashlight to make it easy for drivers to see you and walk on our sidewalks or on the grass and never on the road.  Keep careful watch over your children and pets.

Snow Emergency On Street Parking Rules January 25 - 27, 2025

Montgomery County Snow Emergency On Street Parking Rules from the MoCo Snow Emergency Update #2.

Residents are asked to stay off the roads unless driving is essential. The County declared a “snow emergency” at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. The declaration imposes on-street parking restrictions and makes covered County garages available for free parking.

During the snow emergency, parking is prohibited on posted snow emergency routes and posted surface parking lots. Residents are asked to make every effort to park in driveways and garages. Parking is available at no charge in County-operated parking garages until the snow emergency has ended.

To allow for snow plowing, residents who must use on-street parking should park only on the even side of the street through Monday, Jan. 26. If emergency conditions persist, residents will be expected to move their cars to the odd side of the street by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Any vehicle parked and left unattended in violation of these provisions may be removed and impounded. In addition, taxicabs providing service are permitted to charge an additional $2.50 per trip during this period.

Semi-Annual Community Meeting & Election Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 7:30 p.m.

The Springfield Civic Association has scheduled its required semi-annual meeting and officer election on Wednesday, November 5, 2024 at 7:30 p.m in the Wood Acres Elementary School All Purpose Room. To make it easy for residents to participate, your may also join via Zoom.

Dues Paying Members may vote either in person or electronically. Paper ballots will be distributed to in-person attendees who are dues-paying members and collected at the meeting. Electronic ballots will be delivered by email to dues-paying members after the meeting. Only members who do not vote using a paper ballot will receive an electronic ballot.

The County is preparing a list of addresses that lie in corridors designated for up zoning, and is designing an online look-up tool. The SCA Board will share this information with the Springfield community when it becomes available.

Clear Ice and Snow from sidewalks and play areas around Wood Acres Elementary Schools on Sunday 25 January 2025

Thanks to the 20+ volunteers who worked to make sidewalks safer for children, parents and all pedestrians walking to Wood Acres Elementary School.

The effort was organized by the Springfield and Wood Acres Civic Associations.

The table below shows the outcome of this election by street segment with the confirmation of 51% quorum. The right most column shows Yes or No to indicate if both a quorum and a majority in favor of sidewalks was achieved.
