Evaluation of a portfolio of exemplary work: "Sex and Gender in Sports"
STATEMENT: The final unit of the course, "Sex and Gender in Sports," is the most representative of my focus on media literacy in this Sports, Popular Culture, and Literature Course. What features are indicative of a rich media literacy curriculum?
I conducted a Post-Doctoral Research study about student attitudes in this unit, which was a media literacy intervention.
I surveyed the students at key points to ascertain their knowledge, understanding, and worldviews on sports, media, and society.
I broke the 11-day unit of study into three parts: Masculinity, Cultural Constructions, and Sports; Femininity versus Feminism and Beyond in Sports, and Same Sex Orientation and Gender Identity in Sports.
