« SPES » translated from Latin, means HOPE. In French, the letters mean « Soutien Pour l'Enfance en Souffrance » ( Support For Suffering Childhood )
First, SPES is focused on a global project: to help orphaned children living in Togo (West Africa) by building orphanages (in Lomé and Kpalimé, town 120 km North West from Lomé). Now, SPES is in a big houses it owns in Kélégougan in order to be able to take in hundred and eight children. The very efficient team, is developing the project on-site. These children have no family to take care of them or even feed them, undoubtedly condemning them to die if no-one else were to help them and this constitutes one of the criteria for admission, chosen by the Togolese team of SPES Togo, with the agreement of local authorities.
SPES wants to help those children until they become self-sufficient adults, thanks to sponsors (a kind of « God father or mother ») who can help a child individually or collectively. SPES' will not be adopting the children who will remain Togolese.
SPES has already spent a certain amount of money so as to accommodate about 182 children in a decent environment. Welcoming and taking one child into care costs about 80 euros per month (estimated on a base of eighty five children ). The project in Lomé is nearly finished, but we have launched a second project in Kpalimé. This is the reason why donations are important, as well as benefits coming from the sale of books, T-Shirts or Togolese objects, for example.
SPES is a voluntary association comprising unpaid members. Everything you give will be directly given to the children (except unavoidable minor administrative expenses which must be justified).
"Thus, altogether,
We'll be able to give sense to our lives.
Each of us, giving according to our means,
Will contribute to Humanity's progress and happiness"
