SPES
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
« SPES » translated from Latin, means HOPE. In French, the letters mean « Soutien Pour l'Enfance en Souffrance » ( Support For Suffering Childhood ). SPES is focused on a global project : to help orphaned children living in Togo (West Africa) by building orphanages : in Lomé and Kpalimé.
TToday, SPES is in charge of 186 children and 53 supervisors
In LOME: 117 children; 64 boys and 53 girls + 5 teenagers.
In KPALIME: 69 children: 32 girls and 37 boys
(forecast 72 for this year)
They don’t have close relatives to take care of them and the aim of the organization is to support the children until they are adults and self-sufficient, in particular through sponsorships (of individual members, or groups).
A sponsorship is a financial and emotional commitment. Each "sponsored" child may have several godparents because to date it is necessary to count 80 Euros per month and per child.
Sometimes, confronted by Humanitarian problems that are so large, you don't really know how to start. This is the reason we decided : To build a haven in order to take in needy children and to help them to grow up respecting their own personality, so as to become responsible adults and citizens.

General Assemby 2021:
2021 has been a particularly difficult year.
First of all, TOGO had to deal with the presence of the COVID-19 virus as a whole, as was the case all over the world.
Contaminations in West Africa have been lower than other regions of the world. However, the lack of public resources has slowed economic activity and vaccination campaigns.
From Spes' point of view, we had very few patients, but as you know we had to deplore the death of one of our staff due to Covid and other symptoms of co-morbidity.
The schooling of our children, as well as in the rest of the world, has been disrupted.
The exams were held late, the lessons themselves could not be followed in their entirety, the levels of the students were affected. Despite this, the results held up in most cases.
From a human point of view, the daily health constraints, such as wearing a mask, washing hands, reinforced maintenance of buildings, have made the work of each day a little more complicated, more stressful and this has required a lot of commitment from everyone.
The children themselves, from an early age, had to change their habits and strictly apply the restrictive rules of life and hygiene.
For their part, adolescents, and young adults over the age of 18 were probably the most disturbed by this context.
They are at an age where they claim their freedom, they must make decisions for their orientation, and know how to position themselves between the staff who supervise them, the members of associations in TOGO and internationally, their godfathers, their godmothers, and the institutions in Togo.
Each child has a particular story, and it must be recognized that we had great difficulty in anticipating the right decisions concerning them, in listening to and understanding their concerns, in organizing the financing and the daily life of their young adults.
This situation of transition with adult life is not new to Spes, as you well know, but as the number of children reaching majority increases, individual situations have often become subjects of tension, even of aggression, sometimes more than joy.
Throughout this year, the personnel of Spes in TOGO, the members of Spes international, the members of Spes TOGO, the godfathers and the godmothers
nevertheless ensured or made it possible to ensure the continuity of the operation of the two centers but also the continuity regular, direct, and demanding communication.
None of us at Spes international, at Spes TOGO or among the staff failed in our task.
We have set up at SPESLOME TOGO commissions aimed at piloting decisions on the orientation of children, the maintenance of buildings, the health of children.
These commissions have started to operate and have made it possible to give much more transparency to actions in Togo versus Spes international.
To make this operation even more efficient, and to ensure its sustainability, it has been decided to organize project groups, under the responsibility of Jean Reynaud.
This year, the board of Spes international has changed a bit:
There was the appointment of Jean Reynaud as vice president and the launch of the various project groups, and the change of treasurer, with the arrival of Remy Comiotto, an early sponsor who is used to associative treasury and which, I think, when he has all the elements in his possession, will be able to take us towards greater efficiency.
For the year 2022, we will have to meet several challenges:
From an educational point of view, we must maintain the benevolent and constructive attitude of children and staff as we have done for years and not hesitate to be firm and directive to correct deviant attitudes when we see it.
Our hand should not shake when we have to invest in the training of children and staff but also when we have to punish disengaged staff or retrain children, I us less young so that they can find their place in Togolese society in harmony with the association that has fed, protected and educated them since birth.

Discours 10 ans de KPALIME of Claude Voileau, SPES International President of honor.
Kpalimé,
Mmes et MM les Ministres, Mmes et MM les représentants des Autorités Togolaises, civiles et religieuses, Mmes et MM les Chefs coutumiers traditionnels, Chers membres de SPES Togo et de SPES International et en particulier vous MM Njördur Njardvik Président d’honneur, et Claude Gbedey Vice Président d’honneur de SPES International, absents excusés, toi cher Philippe Platel, mon fils spirituel, Président en exercice de SËS International, vous cher personnel des maisons de l’enfance SPES de Lomé et de Kpalimé, vous tous amis de SPES, du début, d’aujourd’hui et de demain, vous tous les enfants de SPES, et vous tous Mesdames Mesdemoiselles et Messieurs en vos divers titres, grades et qualités, formule qui m'est chère et qui me permet de n’oublier personne.
Il y a 5 ans, ici même, je concluais mon discours par ces mots : «Mia_dogolé pé_aton megbé na SPES Kpalimé bé pé éwo zan doudou (je vous donne rendez-vous dans 5 ans, pour les 10 ans de SPES Kpalimé) ». Eh bien nous y sommes aujourd’hui et SPES Kpalimé a bien 10 ans. Né à la suite de SPES Lomé grâce entre autres à la générosité du Maire d'alors, feu Victor Samtou dont je salue la mémoire, et des Préfets d'alors et d'aujourd'hui, qui ont donné à SPES Togo ces 2 grands terrains dont nous disposons aujourd'hui, sur lesquels SPES Kpalimé a construit les magnifiques bâtiments du Centre des enfants SPES de Kpalimé et de la Maison des préadolescents et des adolescents.
SPES Kpalimé est piloté exclusivement par SPES Togo, sous la présidence de Mme Irène Ashira Ayissa Assih, que je remercie vivement, tout comme Claude Gbedey, pour leurs dévouements et leur disponibilités pour le temps et l'argent qu'ils consacrent à SPES, tout comme tous les membres de SPES Togo. Je remercie aussi vivement la Directrice de SPES Kpalimé, madame Berthe Amedzro, ainsi que tout son staff auquel nous assurons de toute notre confiance pour mener à bien la tâche qui leur est confiée.
SPES International de son côté, est une association internationale enregistrée à Paris, avec des ramifications internationales dans le monde entier, et des parrains marraines qui font vivre l'association grâce à leurs dons réguliers et en assurent la pérennité. Sa vocation, depuis le début en l'an 2000, est d'être totalement bénévole et tout entière au service des enfants. Ainsi tous les membres de SPES voyagent-ils entièrement à leur frais, sans qu'il en coûte un franc pour SPES. En revanche, ils souhaitent apporter leurs conseils, en plus de leur argent, pour le bien des enfants. Mais ceci se fait en toute intelligence avec SPES Togo dans un esprit de propositions, étant bien entendu que c'est in fine SPES Togo qui dispose, et lui seul, des décisions prises localement. La responsabilité pénale lui incombe, de même la responsabilité morale, culturelle et religieuse.
Nous les Yovos, nous nous devons de respecter votre culture faite de traditions et d'habitudes, tant morales que religieuses, car nous nous devons d'être tolérants, même si nous ne partageons pas entièrement ces valeurs avec vous. C'est l'héritage de Voltaire, ce grand philosophe qui disait à peu près ceci, et que je m'approprie : "je ne partage pas ce que vous pensez, mais je me battrais pour que vous puissiez le dire librement" et j’espère que nous continuerons de ne pas nous comporter en "néo-colonialistes" dans quelque domaine que ce soit.
Quant à SPES Togo, il accueille aujourd’hui plus de 180 enfants, dont environ 80 ici à Kpalimé.
Enfin pour conclure, ce que nous voulons pour nos enfants de SPES, c'est qu’ils deviennent à terme des citoyens responsables, autonomes et acteurs de la cité, dans leur culture Togolaise, et pour ce faire, nous avons besoin de votre aide à tous, amis de SPES ici présents.
En effet, ce que nous souhaitons pour eux c'est que vous tous, puissiez ouvrir vos bras à ces enfants, d'abord au sein des diverses associations existantes, pour ensuite favoriser leur intégration totale en leur offrant un emploi qui leur permette de vivre leur vie d'adulte et de fonder un foyer heureux et prospère. Voilà l'avenir que nous leur espérons, voilà l'avenir que nous souhaitons pour tous les Togolais : un avenir serein et plein de joie.
Alors nous comptons sur vous tous pour aider ces enfants déshérités à parvenir au bonheur auquel nous aspirons tous, et je n'aurai que quelques mots à vous dire pour conclure : Akpé kaka don'ko, merci beaucoup d'avance.
