SIGMA: Are you in need of vision about the future and want to employ the brightest speculative minds?  SIGMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the understanding of the future and the long-term consequences of government actions. As the future is the common ground for science fiction writers, so SIGMA is willing to share its knowledge of this unknown territory for the good of the nation. SIGMA is a group of science fiction writers who offer futurism consulting to the United States government and appropriate NGOs. We provide a new concept in public service “think tanks”– an association of speculative writers who have spent careers exploring the future. Many of us have earned Ph.D.s in high tech fields, and some presently hold Federal and defense industry positions. Each is an accomplished science fiction author who has postulated new technologies, new problems and new societies, explaining the possible science and speculating about the effects on the human race. The nation needs new and innovative solutions, particularly in national defense.

Potomac Institute for Policy Studies Center for Revolutionary Scientific Thought (CReST):  Interested in the best thinking on science and technology policy? The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies is an independent, 501(c)(3), not-for-profit public policy research institute. The Institute identifies and aggressively shepherds discussion on key science, technology, and national security issues facing our society, providing in particular, an academic forum for the study of related policy issues. From these discussions and forums, we develop meaningful policy options and ensure their implementation at the intersection of business and government.

Space Development Steering Committee (SDSC): Interested in developing and broadcasting the visions for space development to the public?  For close to 40 years, the space community has been developing new dreams, new schemes for making life a multiplanetary project--for taking ecosystems and you, me, and our children into permanent homes in space. The Space Development Steering Committee is dedicated to making those private visions public. And The Space Development Steering Committee is dedicated to giving a vast new frontier to the grand experiment of life, to the family of DNA.

Office of Net Assessment: Which organization in the Pentagon has consistently done the best forward thinking, wargaming and created the most enduring network of innovative and strategic thinkers?  The Director of Net Assessment develops and coordinates net assessments of the standing, trends, and future prospects of U.S. military capabilities and military potential in comparison with those of other countries or groups of countries so as to identify emerging or future threats or opportunities for the United States. In essence, ONA operates as an internal think tank for the Department.

Defense Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA): What organization is consistently at the edge of the most exciting and revolutionary technologies?  DARPA’s mission is to maintain the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security by sponsoring revolutionary, high-payoff research bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries and their military use.  Over the years, DARPA has worked to enhance our national security by funding research and technology development that not only have improved our military capabilities but have changed the way we live. Since the very beginning, DARPA has been the place for people with innovative ideas that lead to groundbreaking discoveries.
 - I was privileged to serve as a Service Chief's Intern and consult on a number of DARPA projects, and the Defense Science Research Council (DSRC)

Blue Horizons / Center for Strategy & Technology (AU/CSAT): What are the emerging technologies that will shape the US Air Force and the conflict arena in which it must operate in beyond 2025? What could air, space and cyberspace power look like beyond 2025? Who will have access to emerging technologies that can make a difference? How soon will these important technological achievements become fielded systems?  The Blue Horizons study answers questions similar to those addressed in the Air Force 2025 study. CSAT's purpose is to engage in long-term strategic thinking about technology and its implications for U.S. national security.  The Center focuses on education, research, and publications that support the integration of technology into national strategy and policy.
