Privates Milan, Moreau, Mullen and Seidler died prior to the departure of the SAR to Europe
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, saw dawn, felt sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
SOLITUDE
by Sonja Crawford
Shadows gather in the growing dim,
Clouds rise to greet the moon
Solitude brings thoughts of him-
Earth and sea move as one in his stride-
Grace is redefined.
As waves sounding on the beach
His heart keeps rhythm with his mind.
The stillness of a thousand graves
Marks him as he stands-
A solitude no man can reach
Belies the power he commands.
Strength is redefined.
Yet still the the wind can move his hair
The sun can blind his sight
A mortal man - he fights his demons in the night.
No matter how long or hard the journey
Nor how rough the ride-
Laughter still finds a place within his eyes to hide.
Shadows break in the growing light,
The stars begin to dim.
Sleep brings dreams of him.
