Our laboratory works on laser cooling and trapping of atoms, ions and molecules, and also on high resolution spectroscopy and quantum sensing. We have a setup where we can trap cesium and lithium atoms simultaneously along with their ions. We are interested in investigating the physics and chemistry of atoms, ions and molecules at ultralow temperatures. At these ultralow temperatures, quantum mechanical effects become important and the long interrogation times, precise quantum-state preparation and control, enable a variety research directions that include precision measurements, quantum chemistry and quantum simulation. We are almost always setting up some new experiments, or working on upgrading of our existing setup, thus leaving ample scope for instrumentation and learning from scratch.

02/2023: ECDL paper accepted (Optics Letters) (arXiv). Our paper reports on the development of a stable 671 nm external cavity diode laser with output power exceeding 150 mW suitable for laser cooling of lithium atoms.
10/2022: Our work on hyperfine splitting and ac Stark shift in the cesium 7d3/2 state is published in Physical Review A.
09/2022: Our lab now has laser cooled lithium atoms in a magneto-optical trap!
