October 20, 2016 — Striped Water Poets

Striped Water Poets is a weekly critique circle that has met every Tuesday since 2006. Striped Water is involved with various poetry events in and around Auburn, Washington, including the Poetry at the Rainbow Café series (with Northwest Renaissance) every first Monday, Poetry at Auburn AugustFest, and the Poetry Poster Project. Brendan McBreen is a poet and workshop facilitator with Striped Water Poets. He writes sci-fi, humor, and haiku. He is a student of Zen and Taoist philosophy, a collage artist, an occasional cartoonist, and an event coordinator with Auburn AugustFest and with the Poetry at the Rainbow Café series. Gerald A. McBreen is retired from the United States Postal Service, certified by the Newspaper Institute of America, and coordinator of Striped Water Poets in Auburn, Washington. He has been published in various anthologies and magazines. He has served as poet laureate of Pacific, Washington since 2009, and of Auburn Morning Toastmasters from 2010 to 2014.

Cindy Hutchings is a member of Striped Water Poets and Northwest Renaissance Poets. She graduated from Green River Community College and the University of Washington, majoring in English and women’s studies, and was initiated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 2002. She writes poems themed on women’s issues, current events, nature and animals, trauma and healing, and spiritual mysteries. Her poetry has been published in Espial, The New Times newspaper, and the Auburn Reporter newspaper. Her first book, Tree Talk, is available from MoonPath Press.

Carl Palmer is a retired FAA electronics technician, and wrote technical manuals and reports. Now he brings that experience to poetry. He has written five chapbooks, including Telling Stories and Memory Moments. He is published in anthologies and was nominated for three Pushcart prizes in poetry and the Micro Award in Flash Fiction. Carl has been a board member of the Puget Sound Poetry Connection, president of the Tacoma Writers Club, and a member of Striped Water Poets. He lives in Tacoma with his wife.

Jim Teeters has published poetry in several anthologies. He conducts poetry workshops for children and adults and is active in poetry readings in the Seattle area through the Striped Water Poets. He is the author of six poetry collections and the book Teach with Style (ASTD Press, 2013). Jim is a retired social worker and former child care licensor and trainer living in Kent, Washington.
