September 19, 2024 — Jack Straw Writers

The Jack Straw Writers Program was created in 1997 to introduce local writers to the medium of recorded audio; to develop their presentation skills for both live and recorded readings; to encourage the creation of new literary work; to present the writers and their work in live readings, in an anthology, on the web, and on the radio; and to build community among writers. Tonight’s reading, which will be part of the 2024 Downtown Redmond Art Walk, features four Jack Straw poets: Amontaine Aurore, E. J. Batiste, Joshua E. Griffin, and Jarrett Ziemer.

Amontaine Aurore is a storyteller, playwright, actor, director, producer, and performance artist. Currently working on an autobiographical novel, she is committed to presenting stories that illuminate multiple perspectives and deepen the understanding of human complexities.

E. J. Batiste is a writer, poet, artist, and award-winning dramatist. Her work reflects upon her experiences as a Black woman from the South, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and a social observer.

Joshua E. Griffin (who goes by Josh) lives life learning love(d). Experiences through travel and letting go of self have allowed him to walk a decolonization path of unlearning and healing.

Jarrett Ziemer is an MFA student in creative writing at Western Colorado University and an assistant poetry editor for Terrain.org. His work can be found in Belmont Story Review, Creative Nonfiction Magazine, and other publications.
