March 21, 2019 — Band of Poets

Band of Poets features the music and poetry of John Burgess, Anna Jenkins, Ted McMahon, Jed Myers, and Rosanne Olson, sometimes joined in performance by other musicians and poets. You’ll hear a song or two. Sometimes dancing. Expect ballads and hymns, political outrage, ghosts of the Beats, evocations of Whitman, edginess, and love.

See Facebook event.

John Burgess works at corporate communications for an insurance company. He’s been a featured poet throughout the Northwest, and has five books of poetry from Ravenna Press: Punk Poems (2005), A History of Guns in the Family (2008), Graffito (2011), “by Land…” (2015), and 1977 (2018).

Anna Jenkins is music teacher, composer, arranger, performer, and therapeutic musician. She performs with the girl band Nasty Woman, leads the Eastside Harp Circle Ensemble, and enjoys adding Celtic harp to the spoken word with Band of Poets.

Ted McMahon is a Seattle poet and percussionist. A long-time contributor to Easy Speak Seattle, he is happy to be a collaborator with Band of Poets.

Jed Myers has been weaving music and poetry together for many years, believing the arts can help us remember our oneness across all differences. Jed’s poetry is widely published, he’s hosted countless open mics, he plays guitar and sings with the 52nd Street Band, and he loves being in Band of Poets.

Rosanne Olson has spent a lifetime in the arts: photographer, educator, author, and songwriter. In 2018 she released her first album, Love in Your Country. Listen to her songs at www.rosanneolsonmusic.com or on Spotify.
