Orthopedic Sports Arthroscopy Center, Wakamatsu Hospital of UOEH is pleased to offer Three (3) annual Hip Preservation and Arthroscopy Fellowship positions. This highly specialized fellowship prepares trainees for a focused niche practice in Hip Preservation. Fellows with academic interests benefit from the strong research program within a collaborative learning environment.
Eligibility: The fellowship is ideally suited for trainees graduating from a prior sports medicine or adult reconstruction orthopedic fellowship who desire further training in a secondary subspecialty program. However, exceptional graduating orthopedic surgery residents are also welcome to apply.
Fellowship Experience: The one-year fellowship begins on August 1st with a two-week orientation. It offers a comprehensive clinical and surgical experience, including:
Surgical Activity:
High-volume academic practice: Focusing on a variety of sports medicine hip conditions, from simple to complex, emphasizing both surgical and rehabilitative approaches.
Full spectrum of hip reconstruction procedures:
Minimally-invasive Hip Arthroscopy: Utilizing preoperative 3D planning software and real-time intraoperative navigation.
Labral repair, augmentation, reconstruction
Capsular management: Periportal capsulotomy access, Capsular plication, reconstruction
Management of hip impingement (femoroacetabular, subspine, ischiofemoral)
Endoscopic Preservation:
Trochanteric bursectomy, gluteus medius repair, proximal hamstring repair
Endoscopic shelf acetabuloplasty
Open Preservation and Reconstruction:
Surgical Hip Dislocation, Femoral Rotational Osteotomy, Peri-acetabular osteotomy, Full-thickness Gluteus Medius repair, Glute max transfer, derotational femoral osteotomy, Total Hip arthroplasty (direct anterior)
Regular cadaver lab training: For all of the above procedures.
Clinical Activity:
Full spectrum of hip pathology: Learning the essential skills for performing patient evaluations.
Mastery of physical examination techniques:
Analysis of radiographic imaging: X-ray, MRI (3T/ T2 mapping), CT (3D reconstructions), and. Ultrasound assessment
Hands-on training: With ultrasound-guided large joint injections (diagnostic and 1 therapeutic). Surgical training simulation
Hands-on training on Cadaver workshop in Singapore; We have several opportunities to do cadaver workshop at Smith & Nephew in Singapore.
Fund: We have currently not funded fellowship program, but we can apply for several fellowship fund in Japan.
