ACIAR is a statutory authority that operates as part of the Australian Government's development cooperation programme.
The Centre encourages Australia's agricultural scientists to use their skills for the benefit of developing countries and Australia. ACIAR has supported forestry research for the benefit of smallholder growers in Solomon Islands since 2008.
This type of commitment to longitudinal agricultural research makes ACIAR one of the few bodies that demonstrate a deep understanding of the long-term nature of research for development. This applies not only to the time taken for research to run it's course, but also for the relationships between research partners to mature in a meaningful way.
There is currently one ACIAR funded project being run by this team under the Forestry programme:

These project continue the work undertaken through two previous ACIAR funded projects which laid the groundwork for the present project :
FST/2007/020 – Improving silvicultural and economic outcomes for community timber plantations in the Solomon Islands, (April 2008 – April 2012).
FST/2012/043 - Enhancing economic opportunities offered by community and smallholder forestry in the Solomon Islands
